A huge shout out to the Bison Producers of Alberta (BPA) for their work on trying to get industry acknowledgement from the government due to the current pandemi...c. BPA Chair and Canadian Bison Association Vice Chair, Steven Lunty has spoken on this, "Our industry has seen a staggering decrease in slaughter numbers when comparing April/May 2019 to April/May of 2020. As of May 8, 2020 there has been an 81% drop in the number of animals slaughtered at federal plants. The forecast is that by the end of the month that number will be up to 86% when comparing April/May 2019 to April/May of 2020. This is a direct result of the current pandemic." As we are understanding of the circumstances at this time, all that has been asked for is clear communication between industry and the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. We are greatly appreciative of the BPA and the CBA's efforts in pushing forward for recognition and assistance with our provincial government for our industry.
