Tonight we practised a Shiraishi Sensei version of Muso Dori and incorporated the concepts of "bumping into an opponent", "keeping opponent on a string" and "controlling the slack" as shown by Sakasai Sensei. --Doug
Kuzushi in Budo sports Is very often thought of as simply pushing or pulling. Kuzushi means unbalancing the opponent to gain advantage over them. The methods o...f effecting kuzushi depend on maai (combative distance) and other circumstances. It can be achieved using tai sabaki (body positioning and weak lines), taking advantage of the opponent’s actions (push when pulled, pull when pushed), atemi (strikes), or a combination of all three. At more advanced levels however it is much more than that. For example, kuzushi can also be achieved by breaking the opponent’s rhythm, fake attacks, strikes, changes of body position or grip, or a sudden change in speed or tempo. A critical element in kuzushi is that it should disrupt more than the body. Kuzushi is very much a mental thing. Kuzushi should always disrupt the opponent’s concentration, resulting in a momentary opportunity for an attack. strong and positive mental attitude can often dominate a weaker state of mind, resulting in effective kuzushi. please feel free to specify the above addition.

Thinking of the many that have helped me over the years. I was and am very lucky.
Pretty tired. It has been a busy weekend. So good seeing Bill again. The training was awesome. The people there made it more awesome. Thanks to Aric for hosting and to Bill, David, Garth and Phil for showing their stuff. Much to work on and it will be worth it. - Doug
Today we lost a great teacher a friend and a mentor in life. Takamatsu Sensei once said Smile in the Face of Death. This man’s smile could change the world a...nd he did. Tonight at Honbu Soke provided a moment of silence in respect of Seno Sensei. He was family, he was pure and he will forever live on in our hearts. It is the feeling that matters, not the form. Tsuki or not to Tsuki.
Happy Easter! No Class today. Enjoy the day with family and friends.
Agreed. As an example, we incorporate the research and training from Blauer Tactical Systems. This has proved to be a great way to survive an ambush so we can use our training.
