Never before has it become so clear, while trying to maintain and expand services to the community during a pandemic, how urgently the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club needs a new facility to properly house its grooming and ski equipment. The Club has been raising funds for some time for this purpose and this year we hope to make it happen. Nordiq Canada has presented us with a short term fundraising opportunity in which we hope to raise funds to leverage other grants tow...ard that goal. Last year the Nordiq Canada Annual Fund Raiser collectively raised ~$225k for 21 BC clubs. Donors choose which club they would like to support AND some extremely generous supporters of xc skiing in BC are stepping up with matching funds (this year $18,000) to help kick-start things for BC clubs. The $18,000 will be handed out as follows, until it’s gone: o $100 to every club that raises $200 on their own o a further $300 to every club that raises $800 on their own o a further $600 to every club that raises $2,000 on their own o If you’re doing the math, that’s a total contribution of $1,000 on the first $2,000 that the club raises a 50% match! Donors will receive a tax receipt. No Donation is too small but our appreciation is unbounded. Please follow the link below to learn more and follow our progress toward our goal!

LET THE SKIING BEGIN! AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SANTA! It was just a small snowfall but, determined to make all the waiting children large and small happy the grooming elves moved snow piles to put smiles on the faces of one and all! But like many of the best gifts, in order to make them memorable, there is some input required along with the gift. Please read on for the rest of the story.... And when the children awoke the next morning they found the gates OPEN and the parking lot cleared and sanded. Off they set with skis and snowshoes under their arms straight to the sign-in area, as was necessary for alleven elves. And to their delight they found trails packed and tracks set. As they set out on their way they discovered just how hard the elves had worked to prepare the way, for to everyone’s surprise some of the trails were closed, being very icy and treacherous. Thankfully the elves had thoughtfully marked the dangerous trails so that everyone would be safe through the season. And the note they left said: OPEN BUT BE AWARE only groomed trails are open so folks, please stay off the un-groomed trails for safety sake, namely overflow ice and creek crossings (YIPES) we are really sad the dog trails are still closed, but we will get them open as soon as we possibly canpromise! the parking lot and road are plowed (and sanded where necessaryplease don’t fall) You will be happy to know, the middle lit loop is track set as well as the following loop - Wrangler from warming hut to Cataline, Cataline to Winchester, Winchester to Cataline, Cataline to Boot Hill (hill bypass), Boot Hill to Winchester, Anvil (YAHOO) the lights will be operating starting the evening of December 23 2020 The Grooming Elves will be back tomorrow night and again as soon as it snows. (Please give them a big cheer when you see them) So with visions of snow fall dancing in heads MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

Who are those masked wonders? To great excitement, last weekend 9 Coaches upgraded their skills to level 2 Community Coach under the excellent guidance of one o...f the provinces top Coaches, Graeme Moore. Graeme has trained many skiers to Provincial ski team status and we snagged him! The program was delivered with Covid-19 Protocols in place including, masks, social distancing and remote Zoom delivery of book work instruction. Two additional coaches completed their level 1 training bringing the total to 11. Thank you to our financial supporters who helped us with PPE, and covered the costs of training for these community volunteers including: The Canadian Red Cross, Cross Country BC, Via Sport, Nordiq Canada. Dreams are made of this. Two of the coach volunteers, who completed the training course this weekend, are teenage graduates from the WLCCSC Skill Development Program and are top Provincial competitors. They are now learning to pass their skills and enthusiasm on to others and becoming mentors to younger skiers. Community Legacy Building in the making! But... stay tuned: rumour has it that Graeme is coming back in February! Keep your ears to the ground all you aspiring coaches and volunteer supporters. There are no limits to learning or to sharing!

It's time to start thinking about skiing! With cooler weather and a chance of snow on the way please take some time to review the rules we are required to enact in order to keep our trails open.
