On February 4th, the IBCR addressed the Canadian Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development to highlight the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children living in situations of conflict, crisis and displacement. Measures taken by different countries to limit the spread of the virus have a considerable impact on children's lives, especially restrictions such as school closures or curfews. Health coverage for all Today in Quebec, some children cannot access the province's health insurance because of their parents' migratory status. The financial aspect of related expenses prevents them from accessing basic health services, which are necessary for their development, especially in times of pandemic. On the eve of November 20, the World Children Day, we signed, along with 25 other health and human rights organizations, an open letter asking the Government of Que...bec to : /Accelerate the implementation of its commitment to make the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) coverage available to all children born in Quebec, regardless of the immigration status of their parents./ The government must quickly deliver on its promise to change the situation of thousands of already vulnerable children left without health insuranceduring the pandemic. 1 Day 1 Project PRIDE: Programme de renforcement intégral des droits de l’enfant (PRIDE) 2020-2027 Interested in international volunteering? The International Bureau for Children's Rights launches its brand new volunteer program: PRIDE!... With the support of Le développement international du Canada - Affaires mondiales Canada, this 7 year project will see volunteers engaged alongside the IBCR. They will be putting their skills and expertise at the service of partner organizations working for the rights of the child in 11 Country. Engaging with the PRIDE project is the promise to go to the hearts of communities and to advance the protection of all children, with a focus on girls. The current global pandemic forced us to adapt in order to ensure the safety of our volunteers and partners. Since international missions are not possible at this time, we are working hard to prepare for the launch in the next few months, building a strong relationship with our partners based on exchange and collaboration. These two values are at the heart of our approach. Don't miss anything about the upcoming opportunities https :// bit.ly/2HkCrli

1 Day 1 Project Burkina Faso I 2015-2020 I For an environment more respectful of children's rights in Burkina Faso For 5 years now, the IBCR has been working alongside Burkinabe professionals, particularly from the justice, social work and the police sector, in order to offer services that are more adapted and respectful of children's rights and needs.... Implemented with the support of Le développement international du Canada - Affaires mondiales Canada and in close collaboration with our partners in Burkina Faso, the project has led to significant progress that will have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of Burkinabé children. Knowing the rights and specific needs of children is key to protecting them. Eight institutions now provide courses to this effect. They will enable a growing number of Burkinabé professionals to better support and protect children, but also to raise awareness of the role that society as a whole has to play with children. 1 day, 1 project HONDURAS I 2019-2022 I Combating human trafficking In Honduras, 14 people are trafficked and exploited every month, the majority of whom are between 14 and 16 years of age (source: DINAF-USAID-CICESCT, 2019). Despite the efforts of the Honduran government, this plight persists.... To support the fight against human trafficking, particularly of women and girls, in Honduras, the IBCR has been working since 2019 to increase the capacity of institutions, organizations and communities to prevent and combat this terrible problem. Concretely, what are we doing? We create training adapted to their needs to improve the identification, prevention and protection of victims of trafficking, as well as the prosecution of perpetrators. The trainings will then be integrated within the schools of relevant professions (police officers, CICESCT* officials...). By the end of the 3-year project, we will have had the opportunity to collaborate with multiple Honduran institutions, ministerial authorities as well as several members of civil society in order to improve the response of Honduran authorities to trafficking in persons. We believe that it is by promoting a global response that we will be able to make a real difference, which is why we are working as closely as possible with vulnerable populations and the institutions involved. November 5th was the International Day Against Violence and Harassment in Schools. On this occasion, the United Nations published striking data on the subject: 1 out of 3 students are victims of violence and harassment in schools and 1 out of 10 students are victims of cyberbullying. This violence has considerable repercussions on children's mental health and quality of life. In recent months, children are spending more and more time in front of screens because of the covi...d-19 pandemic, making them even more vulnerable to online violence. The IBCR joins its voice to other organizations and calls for mobilization aorund this issue. Children have the right to a caring school environment and it is everyone's responsibility, whether through training of school staff or awareness raising, to ensure this. Source: United Nations
