We are wishing our two wonderful dental assistants, Kayla and Hilary, a Happy Dental Assistant week. Our office could not run so smoothly without you. We appreciate all that you do and thank you for going above and beyond each and every day.

We are so happy to be able to get back to seeing all your lovely smiles. We are open (with restrictions in place) and working hard to get everyone seen, however, due to restrictions, we are working at a very reduced capacity. If you had a regular scheduled appointment with us in the last 2 weeks we will be in contact with you to reschedule. If you have a scheduled appointment with us in the next few weeks, we will be in touch with you to discuss that appointment. We are working hard to ensure everyone on the wait list is seen as soon as possible. To keep our phone lines clear, we are asking that you refrain from calling the office, unless you have an emergency. We can more easily be reached by email at [email protected].

As of August 25th, 2020 the CMO released a Special Measures Order stating that as long as a rotational worker is not returning to the province from an area wher...e there is an active outbreak investigation of COVID-19 and is not returning to the province from a point of origin outside of Canada, these rotational workers may, during the period of self-isolation, leave their property, go for a drive and receive medical attention. They may attend medical and dental appointments where they comply with the following: Rotational workers must disclose to the health care practitioner, prior to attending the appointment, that they are a rotational worker; Rotational workers may attend non-urgent appointments only when they are asymptomatic; and Rotational workers may attend urgent or emergent appointments even where symptomatic provided that they follow public health protocols and any direction from the medical or dental clinic. This decision was not made with the NLDA and therefor preparation must be done now and not before the announcement was made. The NLDA has requested that the Dentists of Newfoundland and Labrador continue to follow the guidelines and protocols outlined within the PANDEMIC PLAN COVID-19 FOR RETURN TO DENTAL PRACTICE and continue to schedule rotational workers after their isolation period for non-urgent care while we work on a safe and effective solution. As always, Dentists are determined to protect you, your family & the dental team. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

We want to take the time to say Thank you to all of our wonderful patients. With our office having been closed from March 17 to June 8 and an extreme amount of new regulations we have to follow, it is taking us a lot longer then it would have pre-covid to get our patients seen. We are doing the best we can and we appreciate you all having patience with us as we all work thru these difficult times together. We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces.

COVID 19 UPDATE: We have been advised by the NL dental association and the NL Heath Department that our office is allowed to resume seeing patients, with some restrictions, as of June 8, 2020, provided we move to Level 3. We are very happy to get back to taking care of the oral health of all our patients. In an effort to make sure your dental visit is as safe as possible, you will notice a lot of changes when you visit our office. There will be restrictions on the number of ...patients we are able to treat and we will be working hard to make sure everyone is seen as soon as possible. We have additional screening procedures in place. We ask that you wear a mask when in our reception area. There will be more infection control procedures and our staff will look a little differently than they did at your last visit. We are working hard to ensure all of our patients get seen as soon as possible and as safely as possible. If you were scheduled with us for an appointment since March 17, 2020 we will be working hard to contact you to reschedule as soon as we are able. We will be asking pre-screening Covid 19 questions prior to appointment, we ask that you use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the office, and we will be taking your temperature prior to your appointment and requiring you to sign COVID 19 consent form. To help with social distancing measures, we ask that whenever possible, only the patient attend their appointment. We also ask that you remain in your car and call once you have arrived for your appointment, a member of our staff will let you know when we are ready for you. We ask that you abide by the markings on the floor throughout the office. We ask that you come to the office by appointment only. If you have a question, concern or would like to pay an invoice, please call the front staff and we will advise you how to proceed. Please note we will not be taking Cash payments at this time. We will not be offering toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss or toys at appointments. All reading material and toys have been removed from our waiting room. Our patient and staff safety is of upmost importance. Please have patience with us, we are all in this together. Please be on time for your appointment as we have to schedule patients to avoid overcrowding in the office and please adhere by the 6 feet distancing whenever possible. Please do not visit our office if you are feeling ill. We look forward to seeing you all soon.

What is a dental emergency? Under the new COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, dental services in Newfoundland and Labrador are limited to emergency procedures. Th...ese include: significant dental infections; oral and facial trauma; prolonged bleeding; and pain that cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications (e.g., Tylenol or Advil). If youre unsure if what youre experiencing is a dental emergency, please contact your family dentist. The Chief Medical Officer of Newfoundland and Labrador, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, announced that dental clinics are ordered to close with the exception of emergenc...ies. As you know this has been done since March 17th due to the NLDBs directive. If you have a dental emergency we ask that you call the dental office. If you reach voicemail please leave a message and staff will be checking the messages regularly to ensure all calls are returned. When you call your dental office they may ask you several questions to ensure that you and all future patients are not being compromised. The NLDA and all dentists across Newfoundland and Labrador always have the publics health as a top priority and this will continue.

Burin Dental Clinic 22.03.2020

As you may have heard, dental clinics across Newfoundland and Labrador have been directed to close for regular dental services due to the pandemic related to CO...VID-19. Emergency services are still being completed (infection, acute pain, bleeding, trauma, etc.) This decision was made for public protection reasons due to the fact that COVID-19 is transmitted through respiratory droplets and dentists are working directly in the mouths of the public. The Chief Public Health Officer of Canada has come out and asked that Canadians take responsibility to flatten the infection curve and we are listening and acting on this and hope other Canadians do the same. If you have a dental emergency we ask that you call the dental office to speak with the officer manager on staff to make an appointment. If you reach voicemail please leave a message and staff will be checking the messages regularly to ensure all patients with a dental emergency are seen. When you call your dental office to make an appointment they may ask you several questions to ensure that you and all future patients are not being compromised. The NLDA and all dentists across Newfoundland and Labrador always have the publics health as a top priority and this will continue.

Our provincial regulatory body, The Newfoundland & Labrador Dental Board, has advised that effective immediately, regular dental services must be suspended from all dental clinics in the province. It has been advised that effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, for a period of 14 days, dental clinics will only manage emergency care due to infection, acute pain, bleeding or trauma. **If you feel you are experiencing a dental emergency have not traveled, been in contact with someone... who has traveled, or are experiencing flu like symptoms, and are a regular patient of our office, please contact our office at (709) 894-4404/4406, contact us via email at [email protected] or thru our Facebook page and emergencies will be evaluated on a case by case basis to determine the best way to safely provide care** *Please note our message machine will be only checked once daily, the best most efficient way to contact a member of our staff is thru email or Facebook.* Along with guidance from the NL dental board, we will continue to assess the evolving situation. All patients with non-emergent appointments booked within the next 14 days will be contacted to reschedule at a more appropriate date. The safety and overall health of our patients, staff and community is as always of our utmost concern. We THANK YOU for your patience and understanding at this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at (709)894-4404/4406 or by email at [email protected].

Did you know that tooth decay can begin as soon as baby teeth erupt? That is why it is so important for your child to visit the dentist at 12 months of age or w...ithin 6 months of eruption. Your dentist can provide you with ways to help prevent your child from developing tooth decay. They can give you tips on how to clean your childs teeth, when to begin to use fluoridated toothpaste, and discuss good eating habits. One of the best ways to keep your childs smile healthy for life is to start good oral health habits early, even before the teeth arrive. Celebrate your childs first visit and find out more information on prevention of early childhood tooth decay here: http://www.firstvisitfirsttooth.ca/

#DYK sugar is one of the main causes of dental problems? The average Canadian eats the equivalent of 40 kg of sugar each year. Here are a few ways to cut down:... 1. Try to choose sugar-free snacks - see the snacks listed below. 2. Add less sugar to coffee or tea (or use sugar substitutes). 3. Avoid sugar-sweetened soft drinks. 4. Read lists of ingredients when you're grocery shopping. Honey, molasses, liquid invert sugar, glucose, and fructose are all types of sugar. 5. When you do eat sweets, avoid sticky sweets. They cling to teeth and are harder to brush away. Eat sweets with a meal, not as a snack. The increased flow of saliva during a meal helps to wash away and dilute sugar.
