A feel good story about the rehabilitation of a Sandhill Crane that had his leg broken when he was hit by a stray golf ball at a local golf course last Fall. Thank you for the efforts of the folks at TerraFauna Wildlife Consulting, Inc, Townline Veterinary Hospital, and Dewdney Animal Hospital Ltd. towards the crane's care and release.

It is crucial that our economic recovery is focused on our future. This means investing in jobs that work with nature. This means investing in Canada’s lands and oceans. It’s proven that protecting nature protects us all. A real recovery plan must make room for nature.

Bat Team Coordinator, John Saremba, recently provided a virtual presentation about bats to 40 members of the PoCo Garden Club. In addition to learning about the types of bats in our area and their behaviors, members learned about how they could help bats including: planting native plants and shrubs, maintaining native trees, leaving dead trees standing, and avoiding using of pesticides and bug zappers. Adding some night-blooming flowers to their gardens, such as Fireweed, Phlox, and Cardinal Flower, will attract night-flying moths which the bats will eat.
