The City of Burlington is getting many concerning messages about the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. While we are on standby to help with the rollout in o...ur City facilities, it is the Provincial Government that decides and determines: where the doses will go, who will receive it and when. Halton Region Public Health is responsible for the allocation and administration of the vaccines at a regional level, based on the Province’s implementation plan. Halton Region Public Health is working closely with its partners to roll out the vaccine as quickly and equitably as possible. The Region is asking for residents to please be patient while priority populations are vaccinated. Planning is underway to make sure that everyone in Halton who wants the vaccine can receive it following the vaccination of priority populations. Right now, people that can get the vaccination as part of Phase 1 of the Province’s three-phased vaccine distribution implementation plan: Long-term care homes - residents, essential caregivers and staff of congregate care settings for seniors; Health care workers; Adults in First Nations, Métis and Inuit populations; and Adult recipients of chronic home health care. Phase 2 of the plan will still focus on these areas and expand vaccinating workers in health care, long-term care homes, retirement homes, home care patients with chronic conditions, additional First Nation communities and urban Indigenous populations. Phase 2 is now expected to be completed by end of July 2021 and Phase 3 for the general population (anyone who wants the vaccine) could begin as early as August 2021, pending availability of vaccines. Vaccination of populations in Phase 1 will continue until all vaccinations are complete. For more information, please visit www.ontario.ca/covidvaccine. Questions can be emailed to [email protected] or by phone at 311. For the latest from Halton Region about COVID-19, please visit www.halton.ca/covid19. Be patient. Be kind. Be careful. Stay home.
