The two largest food banks in Toronto released their latest Who’s Hungry Report for 2020 yesterday, the Daily Bread Food Bank and North York Harvest. Both are partner organizations with us through Feed Ontario. The report details much about what they’ve had to face throughout the covid pandemic. One of the things we noted from the report was the kind of things people have to give up in order to meet basic costs of living. For example, being able to pay their phone bills a...nd rent sometimes means going without or giving up food. Sometimes people will ask why that client seems to drive a nice car yet need food relief. When times were better, people were able to afford the phone plans they had or the cars they drive and when the budget gets tight they need to make adjustments and food is usually the first thing they go without. There are many reasons that can cause financial struggles in our lives. Please just remember that there are many people out there struggling from all sectors including the service industry. Please continue to support local, support our local restaurants if at all possible right now. https://www.dailybread.ca//whos-hungry-2020-building-a-fu/ https://www.dailybread.ca/research/whos-hungry-report-2020/ https://youtu.be/-G9PsvXTmo8 If you are in need or know of someone who could use our help PLEASE have them email us at [email protected] or call 905-637-2273 to make arrangements to have food dropped at their door or make arrangements to pick it up through our curb-side pickup option. If you live in Burlington, we are here to help. Don’t struggle give us a call.

McCaughey Consumer Products (MCP) is based here in Burlington and helps manufacturers get their consumer products to the Canadian marketplace. Of course their travel-sized segment has taken a hit during the crisis but Robert McCaughey (CEO) still maintains his company’s generosity with donations to Food agencies in Niagara on the Lake, Mississauga and here in Burlington. Today Robert met with Robin and presented a cheque to the Food Bank for $10,000. This will greatly impact ...our ability to continue to serve Burlington families in need of our assistance. In addition to the generous cash donation, MCP also donates personal hygiene products on occasion so they’re a perfect fit for the Burlington Food Bank. Robin added that as appreciative as we are for very large donations such as this, we also welcome donations of any size. We have a few monthly donors that just give $5/month and that still buys a bag of milk or a couple dozen eggs. It all helps! Thank you again so much Robert and your team at MCP. See more

This is the time of year that the City of Burlington raises the @giftofgivingback flag at city hall to kick off a time of giving, teamwork and volunteering! Jean Longfield and her amazing team are a treasure here in Burlington. Anyone who has witnessed the absolutely incredible annual gathering of food donations know how special her team is and how special it is for all the young athletes in our town to work together to put food on the table for families in Burlington for mon...ths and months. They literally fill up 3 high school gyms with food, requiring transport trucks and forklifts to move it all to safe storage at many of our food security agencies. Seeing the smiles on our young athlete’s faces as they team up and fill all the bins working together is something everyone should see to warm their hearts. Something is coming in early December and it will be a GIFT to the whole community. The next Gift of Giving Back event at Burlington Centre can’t wait!! We tried to get it out of her today but Jean is tough and wouldn’t crack under the pressure. See more

Covid-Elvis (Cameron Michael Caton) has spent the last 6 months during the pandemic entertaining outdoors with his Covid-Elvis Food Drive And Basic Human Essentials Tour collecting and donating more than 25 thousand pounds of non perishables for those less fortunate among other things. As the weather turns colder he is looking to take this show indoors. If anyone has a venue or knows of one that would be interested please send them his way. ... He has done 4 Covid-Elvis appearances in Burlington specific to the Burlington Food Bank and has donated 1,289 pounds in the past two weeks. 'A world without music would be deafening'' Thank you, thank you very much Cameron a.k.a Covid-Elvis https://www.facebook.com/groups/3014659741950660/?ref=share

Thank you to the new Bowser Babes - JOHANNE PATTERSON, ANNE McGRAW, CAMILE KELLY, KIMBERLEY HOLLOWAY, SUSANNE BECKER, KATHY HARWOOD, SUE MALCOLMSON, TANGY RATTRAY, and JO SMITH. Johanne presented a $5,600 cheque today to the Burlington Food Bank that represents $ from last year's Christmas Dance event led by Colin Ashdown and Angelo Sottana. The extra help provided by Dan Marinac, Lino Fera and Paul Kelly was greatly appreciated and helped make it a successful event. This y...ear’s Christmas Dance was planned for November 28 at the Burlington Legion however, unfortunately this has been cancelled as well. The Legion appreciates the league hosting events with them and for the BOHC this is the only annual event that involved wives/partners. The new Babes had been working hard to try to get the monthly collections going while the BOHC (Burlington Oldtimers Hockey Club) was starting up but as we all know, the restrictions and safety precautions made it just about impossible - plus they wanted any collections to be as safe as possible for everyone and not have anyone enter arenas for collection. Better luck in 2021 everyone!
