When Can You Use Gas and Air during Labour Entonox is very simple to use, and it can be used whenever you wish once you are in labour. Your doctor or midwife will place the mouthpiece between your lips or teeth and ask you to take steady deep breaths. You may feel a little light-headed, and that is when you should take it off. You can also bite down your mouthpiece as this will help you cope with the pain experienced during contractions. You will feel normal again after som...e time. How to Use Entonox in Labour: You can ask for entonox whenever you want during labour. You will be asked to breathe gas and air through a mouthpiece or a mask. Here is how you can use it: Place the mouthpiece in the middle of your lips or teeth. If it is a mask, then bring it up to your face. Hold it that way and take deep and even breaths. The mask or mouthpiece provided to you will be a two-way valve. This means that gas and air will be released for breathing, and the carbon dioxide you breathe out is taken away. Keep breathing. At one point you will start to feel slightly light-headed. When this happens, you can take the mask or the mouthpiece away. After some time, you will feel absolutely normal. Some practice might be primarily needed for you to get the timing right. It usually takes around 30 seconds of breathing for this to take effect. This is because the gas has to build up in the bloodstream. However, unless you breathe entonox deeply for at least a minute, you may not get the desired benefit. . . . . . @mama_sallyharding #laughinggas #entonox #painrelief #pregnancy #labour #birth #postpartum #newborn #baby #hospitalbirth #homebirth #birthwithoutfear #burnabymidwife #burnaby #coquitlam #newwest

Repost @thebirthhive So many feelings. NONE OF THEM WRONG! For most of us, pregnancy and the first Christmas with a new baby is an extra special time. One that we've pictured at some point or another. A moment wrought with anticipation and excitement. To have such significant changes to that experience, caused by circumstances that we have no control over, can make the feeling of losing out on those experiences an extra hard pill to swallow. ... And whatever you're feeling about this upcoming holiday season, whether it's downright relief at NOT having to drag your baby from one event to the next to the next or overwhelming sadness at what you might be missing, you certainly aren't alone + your feelings are valid. Mama, how are YOU feeling as we head into this Covid Christmas? See more

Repost @bumppelvichealth Did you know there were SO many different birth noises? AND that making noise in labour can be helpful? Hi I'm Lacey a pelvic floor physical therapist with a passion for all things bump related . Prenatal, postpartum and pelvic floor rehabilitation is my jam, and I'm so happy you are here. I remember when I was in labour with my second son, I arrived at the hospital at 7-8cms dilated ( I had no idea I was that far along)... I walked in...to Emergency and immediately left my husband to finish the registration and headed towards the elevators. I arrived on maternity and was greeted by a very chipper L & N nurse who escorted me to my room. I remember undressing, and all of a sudden a LOUD moan exited my body. I was immediately asked to be quiet, as I was told I would scare the other patients on the floor. I honestly tried, but I couldn't contain it. I remember feeling guilty and ashamed in that moment for listening to my body and for doing what felt right. JUST KNOW... Making noise in labour and during delivery is NORMAL, in fact it can be beneficial as an open glottis position can soften, and relax your pelvic floor muscles. You do NOT need to feel ashamed for your vocalizations, unless you choose to be a silent or quiet birther and that's OK too! YOU DO YOU For a detailed explanation of these labour sounds, check out this recent post by @babytalk.birthnurse (shared in my stories). Did you make noise in labour or during delivery?
