RENT SUPPORT FOR BURNABY BUSINESSES -- We've been waiting for a better rent subsidy program for months. Today, the Senate finally passed Bill C-9 which includes the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy. (CERS) This program removes landlords from the application process -- thankfully -- and provides a benefit that is more widely available to businesses. CERS would provide up a subsidy of up to 65% of eligible rent/mortgage expenses from September 27 to December 19, 2020. What happ...ens after that date has not bee announced. The amount of rent subsidy you can receive relates to the amount of revenue decline your business is facing. For example, a business with a 25% revenue drop would receive a 20% rent subsidy based on the calculations, whereas one with 55% revenue decline could get 46.25% rental subsidy. BREAKING BUSINESS NEWS -- This afternoon, expanded health orders were announced by Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry that prohibit social gatherings and events, as well as mandate masks in all workplaces and public spaces. The current restrictions that prohibit social interactions and gatherings with those outside of your household have been extended until December 7th, and have been expanded to cover the entire province. Wearing masks or face-coverings will be mandated ...in all indoor public and retail spaces for staff and customers, except where eating or drinking. In offices and workplaces, those working at a personal desk will not need to wear a mask but in any common areas or shared worked spaces, they will be required. Spin classes, hot yoga, and high intensity interval training group physical activities must stop until further notice. All other, less-intense group physical activities can continue once they update their COVID-19 plans to meet new guidelines that are being posted. Gyms and businesses offering private workouts or personal training can continue to operate. All community and social events suspended for the next two weeks, even if they're under 50 people and even if they are held in a business or other controlled setting with safety protocols in place.
