Many people remember the fascinating presentation that Myles from TerraFauna Wildlife Consulting, Inc gave at our AGM in 2019. Thanks to great community support, many sightings were reported into CraneSightings.com to help his research, especially about the small Fraser Valley breeding group. While restrictions are in place, we thought you still might be interested in the story of Fraser, the Sandhill Crane who beat the odds and recovered from his injuries so he is now ready for release.

We've discovered a new organisation, Salmon Nation, who are putting on the Festival of What Works - a week-long, online celebration and examination of community-led approaches to living well in place. There is a wide range of topics covered in the various presentations. All sessions are free. Full event schedule and registration: https://salmonnation.net/whatworks We would love to know what you sign up for and what you think of the session! https://www.facebook.com/events/651600902423790

Thanks to all the dedicated streamkeepers in our community! Sapperton Fish & Game Club who cleaned up the Brunette River, Eagle Creek Streamkeepers, Stoney Creek Environment Committee, Beecher Creek Streamkeepers, Still Creek Streamkeepers, Guichon Creek (Still Creek). "At the dam and fishway where Burnaby Lake drains into the Brunette River, another 600-700 fish were counted. Those salmon make their way into several streams, including Still Creek, Beecher Creek, Eagle Cree...k and Guichon Creek." - CBC’s @raffertybaker #urbansalmon https://www.cbc.ca//br/burnaby-streams-chum-run-1.5804582

Did you know One of the reasons why we are able to see salmon in the Brunette River is due to efforts of Elmer Rudolph, a key member of the Sapperton Fish & Game Club. We were thrilled to find out that he received a City of Burnaby 2020 Environmental Award. It took over 30 years of tireless work before the salmon returned. Check out our website to learn more: https://burnabylakepark.ca//stewardship-partner-recognise/ (You’ll find links to other stories and videos there too...!) #elmerrudolph #sappertonfishandgameclub #brunetteriver #burnabylake #watershed #river #rivercleanup #riverprotection #livingrivers #salmon #salmonspawning #urbansalmon #stewardship #ecosystem #conservation #salmonconservation See more

It’s a perfect night to stay in and watch the delightful and heartwarming @Rare Bird Alert documentary on CBC Gem. It’s fun to see some familiar faces, learn the lingo and find out what makes birding so wonderful. #RareBirdAlertDoc @cbcdocs @Dream Street Pictures https://www.cbc.ca/cbcdocspov/episodes/rare-bird-alert
