Today we are highlighting dedicated Burn Fund Rep Cail Low of Port Alberni Professional Fire Fighters Local 1667 who has been supporting the Burn Fund for the last two years. We are lucky to have you as part of our Burn Fund community Cail! "I was introduced to the Burn Fund soon after I joined Port Alberni Fire Department Local 1667 in July, 2017. I was really impressed by the programs and the support provided to burn survivors and their families. Inspired by the incredible... work the Burn Fund does, I decided to become the rep for Local 1667 in August, 2019. The pandemic began soon after I joined, so much of my experience with the Burn Fund has been virtual. I have enjoyed taking part in virtual Burn Camp Kick-Offs for the past two years, and look forward to participating at in-person events in the future. Local 1667 continues to support the Burn Fund by donating funds and promoting the organization. I am excited to continue being part BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund!"

Thank you to Chilliwack Firefighters Charitable Society for their donation of $5,000! These funds were raised through local fundraisers and $1,500 was raised by recently retired Capt. Jim Clarke from his retirement party. Throwing it back to Chilliwack Fire's awesome cheque presentation video from 2020 featuring burn survivor Keira McKenzie. We can't wait to see you all in person!

It's almost time to Trick or Treat! Be sure to stay safe this Halloween by following these tips from the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner! Top five Halloween fire safety tips: Use a battery-operated candle or glow stick in jack-o-lanterns When choosing costumes, stay away from long trailing fabric... Teach children to stay away from open flames, including jack-o-lanterns with candles in them. Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume. Happy Halloween! Our favourite Halloween tradition, Edgemont Haunt has a scary display and truly haunted decorations. Longtime supporters of the Burn Fund, they were not able to host their annual walk through haunted house this year due to safety precautions, but instead focused on a Spooktacular display. They have been accepting donations in support of the Burn Fund and last night had a special visit from District of North Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society. Thank you so much to the Edgemont Haunt and District of North Vancouver Fire for your support! We truly appreciate it.

Did you know: usually, #BrightNightsYVR is the single largest fundraiser for BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund every year? This year, with the modified a...ttendance due to COVID-safe restrictions, we'll need your help. Cash donations will still be accepted at the entrance, but this year BC Burn Fund is holding an online 50/50 raffle to make up for the smaller Bright Nights event. Donations and proceeds from raffle tickets go towards supporting fire & rescue workers, and helping those affected by fire accidents. This week's #SelfCareSunday comes from Carolyn Neapole, Certified Music Therapist at the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn, Plastic and High Acuity Unit at VGH. We were thrilled to have Carolyn lead a virtual session for burn survivors earlier this week. "Relaxation is a fluid state of being, where the mind and body are generally free from tension. With so many reasons to be stressed, and so much noise around us all of the time, it can be easy to forget how much we need r...elaxation to be mentally and physically well. Whenever you can, take a few minutes to slow down and become aware of your breath. Look for your opportunities on transit, on a break, waiting for an appointment. If it helps to have some guidance, a music therapy & relaxation group is a great option, or check out some of the many resources available on youtube and other websites. A little relaxation goes a long way towards helping us cope and making us more available to enjoy the good moments in life.
