After a lot of time spent planning and preparing for Phase 2 of the Sundance Deep Energy Retrofit, the ground work is beginning next week. Nestled in the heart of Riverdale a community along the banks of Edmonton ABs North Saskatchewan River is the Sundance Co-Op Community. The Butterwick Group was selected to undertake a deep-energy retrofit to 15 buildings (59 units) of a 1970s wood frame townhouse complex to achieve net-zero-energy-ready performance levels, and develo...p the infrastructure to make these retrofits commercially viable through a repeatable, modular, retrofit process. The goal of the project is that results will establish the business case for large-scale deep energy retrofits by demonstrating the use of prefabricated building envelope panels and trialing a process for the digital capture of panel design requirements.

House demolition can be a controversial topic, everyone has their own thoughts on the life time of a house. With our DESIGN PLAN BUILD approach, we work with the homeowner to look at all different aspects of a project so they can see their options and make the choice that as right for them. Sometimes a deep energy retrofit is the right option, sometimes a second story addition and in this case a new build. After lots of time spent on the design and planning of this home, we're excited to be getting started on this new build!

Our vision has always been to align our company with organizations that share our values. At Butterwick, we value family. We have developed long-term relationships with organizations that we believe in and these relationships have become a part of the culture within our business. Over the years, we have supported 2 organizations that we believe mirror our values and they have become a part of our core vision. Since 2016, Butterwick has supported The Samaritan Foundation with time and finances. We have been taken 3 trips to the Dominican Republic to build homes for families living in the poorest communities. To us it checks all the boxes. Its the most cost effective thing you can do long term as an owner-operator. It eliminates the use of fossil fuel which is a no...n renewable resource, and it mitigates climate change. Jean, Sandy, and Stewart have a vision of a future where we turn the buildings we have into the buildings we need. Find out what that future looks like on this episode of #Renewable. The countdown is on until our next home building trip to the Dominican Republic. This will be Daves 3rd trip to build homes in a community near the Puerto Plata area. A note from Dave.... As October is coming to an end, I am gearing up to leave on November 9 for another home building trip to the Dominican Republic. I will be joining a team from Edmonton, and will be spending 10 days in the same area near Puerto Plata that I have been to in the past. This will be the 3rd tr...ip that I have participated in and Im looking forward to returning and seeing some familiar faces. This initiative is organized and supported by the Samaritan Foundation and I have been privileged to see first-hand the impact these homes have had on the families and community. These homes provide shelter and an escape from the cycle of poverty that effects so many families in the Dominican Republic. As a home building & construction company and as a family, Annalee and I have chosen together to support this project and hope to involve more of our team members in years to come. Along with the donation of my time, each participant of the trip requires a $3,000 financial donation to be made to cover the cost of 1 house, this donation is also matched by The Ben Sawatzky Foundation, so the funds go even further than just our donation. In the past we have held a fundraiser for the trip but in the past few months as the Butterwick Family has grown, planning an event wasnt an undertaking that weve had the time for. If you are interested in supporting our involvement in this project, a financial donation would be greatly appreciated. All donations will receive a tax receipt and if youd like to learn more about the organization and the work being done in the Dominican Republic, you can take a look at their website http://www.thesamaritanfoundationdr.com. If you have any questions please reach out to Annalee or myself. Thank you for your support!
