I was amazed to learn that these fragile Glass Sponge Reefs, some of which are located very close to Bowen Island, existed during the time of the dinosaurs and they were thought to have gone extinct about 40 million years ago. In 1987 a team of Canadian scientists discovered 9000 year old living Glass Sponge Reefs on BC’s North coast. ... With the recent collaboration of many citizen scientists, including 4th generation Bowen Islander, Adam Taylor @ataylor947, who took this photo, many of these reefs are now protected, and work continues to get protection for all of the reefs in Howe Sound. Oh Bowen Island, you are a magical place. I knew I was missing live music these last few months but didn’t realize how much until last night. What a special treat it was to sit under the stars for an intimate performance with Bowen’s own super group, Black Molly. In a normal year they would have been performing in front of a huge crowd for Bowen’s annual ‘fall fair’ - Bowfest. Instead, it was live streamed on Facebook to a huge success. Way to go Bowen!
