Happy Mothers Day to my English mom, Sharon. Literally so lucky to have the world's best mother in law (and I'm not just saying that cause it's English mothers day). She is straight up hilarious and one of my very best friends. . . . I haven't seen her in over a year now, but know when I do we will have a great laugh together as usual. I'm so blessed even though she gave Jack some unreal expectations. Absolutely no ironing, Sharon. Unless it's with a flat iron (great life ...hack btw) Why do the English love to iron? It's called tumble dry you weirdos. I know you have the option on your dryers. I've checked. . . . Sharon is an incredible mom and I'm so lucky to have her. She laughs at all my crazy and I'm so excited that she's stuck with me forever. If you've had the pleasure of meeting Shar, you know why she means the world to me. THE MORE YOU KNOW . . . Gone are the days of 3 hour maximum hair appointments. Hair techniques have changed drastically. Stylists need more education than ever to create the pinterest perfect pics that are brought in. Salons need to stock more product to perform the wide array of colors desired. Client requests are more adventurous and diverse than ever. These are all really cool things!... . . . I believe in transparency and over my time off I did a tonne of delving into my own business. My profit margins were small and my costs of running were extremely high. It's the stuff I like to avoid (who doesnt ) As of March 1st, my pricing will be based on an hourly rate. 3 hour Colors and 5 hour colors will not be the same price anymore. . . . Truth bomb. I have always been terrified to charge more. As the owner, I have had people say "It must be nice to pocket all that money." Fact.....I put 98% of what I charge back in my business to improve, to carry the best product available, and to bring outstanding customer service. I average 50-60 hours a week behind the chair doing services. That doesnt include wearing every other hat in my business (cleaning lady, secretary, inventory, book keeper, educator, student) . . . Do I consider myself incredibly lucky (and successful)? Heck yes I do....but I also need to continue running my business. It has been a hard year for Salon Owners and our cost of running has almost doubled due to COVID-19. This comes from a place of necessity, not greed. I promise. Thank you for your continued support. Today's news was sad, but somewhat expected. I want to give a massive thanks to everyone that has purchased product, checked in, and reached out. You are extra glorious. . . . I have decided that as of October 31, I will not be taking on new clients. I know that it sounds scary when a stylist says they arent accepting new clients anymore, but I promise, it's to serve you better. I know you haven't heard from me in a few days. I got home from my time in the mountains to find out our family doggo, Willow, was sick. . . . Yesterday my family and I had to make a really hard choice. We put our beautiful, goofy, and cuddly girl down. We know my papa bear is in heaven with a pocket full of milk bones waiting for her just like he always did. ... . . . I got to pick out Willow for my family. My mom asked for a medium sized dog. I bought a Great Dane. I was in BIG trouble, but everyone quickly fell in love with this gorgeous girl. She brought laughter and joy. Her listening skills weren't the best, but she made up for it in cuddles . . . We made the right choice so she is no longer suffering, but that doesn't make it easier. I gave her pets right til the very end. I vowed to always keep my social honest and true to me and this was my reality this week. I didn't have it in me to post until today. I should be sharing some lovely hair pics today, but wanted to feature something a little different today. . . . This is Bry-Anne . Also known as Little Baz. Best friend extraordinaire. She is my partner in crime for life (and wedding makeup for the shop) We were supposed to be heading on a 3 week holiday to England and Italy a week from today. In honor of that I decided to do a post about friendship. ... . . . This unexpected curveball we have all been thrown has forced us to slow down and appreciate the things that we still have. Yes, I wish I was heading to the Amalfi Coast. Absolutely. But that isnt essential. Guess what is? Friendship. I think it's easy to get caught up in life and forget to see the beauty and love that fills our lives. We forget to laugh. We forget to relax. We forget to love. Slowing down gave us the beautiful opportunity to do those things again. We were given time. Some will disagree with how I've chosen to look at it, but I am grateful. . . . Bry-Anne is my soulmate friend. We have both helped each other through being business owners, through losing a parent, and now through figuring out normal in a global pandemic. We are never ever too busy to make our friendship a priority. She has been an essential support to me through so much.
