Sadly, we had a large group of male teenagers, some with fat bikes, walk and ride on the set tracks today, causing a bit of a mess. Just a reminder that bikes of any kind, are NOT ALLOWED on the set trails, or in the park, while we have stewardship in the winter months. If, as a member, you see such things happening, would you tactfully let those involved know that this won’t be tolerated. If you know those who may have been involved, DM us and we will speak with them.

All trails tracked today Feb 3/21. Use Shirley’s Corner with caution, the cat slid off the main track today, due to soft underpack from warm temperatures. The boys had to shovel and dig it out, so the trail is a bit messed up there!
Thank you to our trackers today, who tracked all the trails of lovely fresh snow, enjoy!!! Dec 26/20Thank you to our trackers today, who tracked all the trails of lovely fresh snow, enjoy!!! Dec 26/20
The trackers have a special request! If any of the club members are out, would they mind to pack along a pair of pruning shears? If they come across any small brush hanging over the trail, would you clip it? The heavy snow has brought down a lot of branches, and it’s impossible for the trackers to get to it while tracking. They’d be stopping every 5 feet, and be up there all day! Many thanks to those who are able to help out!

So as of today the Forestry department has vacated the park! The boys were up today to assess the conditions, put the kiosk out, and built the burm! Conditions are not ideal at the moment, very slushy, but with a bit of fresh snow, we will start to track the trails. We are happy to announce that the parks has opened the main cabin at the 3rd lake, but strict protocols are in place. The warming huts on Hudu and Huff and Puff trails are open as well. Limit of 4, or those who live together in the same family. Please obey all signage, bring your masks and hand sanitizer. As always, no dogs are allowed on the trails. And pray for a bit more snow!
We are expecting a full season of skiing to be available this year! The forestry will be completing their fuel management activity approximately December 15. Depending on snow accumulation, our volunteers will be in the park tracking as soon as is possible! Meanwhile you can pick up your season pass at Gericks Sports in Trail, Country Roads in Fruitvale, or the Outdoor Store in Salmo. $40 for Singles, $80 for Couples, $90 for Family (children under 19). The main cabin, pl...us the warming huts on the Huff and Puff Trail, and Hudo Trail, are open with strict protocols posted. Signage is in place. Occupancy is limited to 4 people at one time, skiing in the same group, and preferably those who live in the same dwelling or in your bubble. We ask that you bring with you your own clean kit, such as masks and hand sanitizers, etc, and social distance while in the cabin. And it goes without saying, take everything out that you brought in. Leave the cabin in a clean condition for the next person. See more
Greetings to all our members and future members! Preparations are now going on for the ski season of 2020-2021! There are crews in the park now, completing their fire reduction management, but they have informed us that they expect to be completed by December 15! Tracking will start as soon as there is enough snow after that time. Season passes are now available at the early bird price until November 3. They can be purchased at Gerick cycle in Trail, Country Roads in Fruitvale, and the Outdoor Store in Salmo. Prices are as follows:
An update from Steve Morrisette: I asked the question of BC Parks, now that the parks are all closed as of 1pm April 8th, that yes, Champion is closed to all access, ski, snowshoe, walk, anything. Thanks for the info Steve!
As a reminder to our snowshoers! PLEASE try to avoid the machine groomed trails. The space on the outside of the tracks is good for snowshoeing. Try to stay as far as possible from the set tracks. Even when a light snowfall has occurred, avoid the tracks. Those who are skiing after a snowfall will easily reestablish the set track. We know that most people are already adhering to this policy, but just as a reminder, as many of the trails today had evidence of snowshoes on the tracks!
All trails tracked today Monday March 9. Everything tracked very well and conditions are very good for the moment!!All trails tracked today Monday March 9. Everything tracked very well and conditions are very good for the moment!!
For those of you wondering why there has not been tracking done lately, ( to the person who messaged me, I read your message then, poof! it vanished!). The normal protocol is to track after a snowfall. Our tracking system does not do well if theres not fresh snow. With the spring melt, its definitely a challenge to get a good track. We believe there may have been a bit of fresh snow in the last day or two, so the volunteers are going to give it a try tomorrow morning Monday March 9!

The boys were up today to pull out the kiosk and build up the snow burm. Conditions as you can imagine are very poor at the moment. We will need more snow and cooler temperatures before we can start tracking!
Yea!!!! The snow is here! BC parks is scheduled to be out by Dec 20th so if we have enough snow we should start tracking ASAP after that!!!

Tracking done today Jan 23 on Hudo trail only! Conditions are reported by our volunteers to be Perfect! Fluffy!
Hudu trail tracked a Jan 19,
The club has decided we can open the Hudo trail, as it is not directly effected by the fuel reduction management team. So we have moved the kiosk to the far end of the parking lot, near the beginning of the trail. The trail was tracked this morning, Jan 9. Be aware if you are not familiar with Hudo, that this trail is a more technical trail, and there are some sections that are a bit steep.
Tracking completed this morning. Dec 30th!
Tracked the trails dec 24th am!
We have some good news to report! The contractor for Fuel Reduction will not be going into Champion Lakes until after January 7, so we have decided to open the trails for the public until that date. Trails were tracked this morning December 22! Main road was tracked to 2nd Lake. One circuit around the campground was tracked, then through the playground to the main beach cabin. Shirleys corner and the huff and puff trail were also tracked. Conditions are not ideal, so hop...efully we will be getting some snow soon, as promised in the forecast! Although we do not expect a full season, we still have expenses to cover, such as liability, fire and theft insurance . If you feel you would like to help the club by way of a donation, you can still purchase a seasons pass for $35, at Country Roads in Fruitvale, and Gerricks Cycle in Trail. Many thanks!
The Annual General Meeting of the Beaver Valley Cross Country Ski Club will be held on Dec 5 at 7pm at the meeting room of the Fruitvale Curling Club. This meeting is open to all members of the ski club. We should have a final plan in place from BC Parks regarding the fuel reduction schedule by this time. Please plan to attend!
Hello cross country skiers. At this time, it is looking pretty certain that we will not have access to any trails up at Champion Lakes this season. We have been waiting for final word, but it appears that the Parks BC will or has, contracted a team to do fuel management and reduction for the forested area of the park. Therefore at this time, we have no choice but to inform the public that there will be no club for this winter.
All trails tracked March 10th!
All trails tracked Saturday March 3!
Tracking was done Feb 24th,
Tracking done on all trails February 18th. As of noon the highway up to the trailhead had not been plowed!
All trails tracked Thursday Feb 15!
Limited tracking done February 9th, including the main trail, campground and Hudo Trail.
Tracking done today Feb 3 all trails, except for Hudo trail!
Tracking done Wednesday Jan 30th!
Volunteers were able to get up to the trails Monday, and you can imagine the state after the amount of snow we've had! The day was pretty much taken up with removal of all the downed trees! Volunteers are hoping to do a full track set on Wednesday!
The plows have finally been able to start the road up to the trails, we are going to attempt to do some tracking starting Monday, depending on volunteer availability!
We unfortunately have no choice but to cancel the Bean Feed tomorrow. As of 2:30 January 27th, Emcom has still not plowed the champion lakes road! Calls to the highways have not resulted in any action being taken. The road is impassible due to poor road conditions and downed trees on the road. Our volunteers have made several unsuccessful attempts to go up and do the tracking but at this point there is not enough time even if the road was plowed this afternoon to do all the tracking and set up before the Bean Feed. We have no choice at this time but to cancel! . Please share!
We attempted to get up to the main trails this afternoon, Thursday Jan 25th, but the Champion Lakes road has not been plowed, and there were several downed trees which made the road impassible! Ministry of highways has been informed!!
Thank you to Jay and Dave for cleaning up the destruction at the Hudo warming hut! It's now open again for the skiers, complete repair will be done during the summer months!
Tracking done Friday January 19th. A lot of tree clearing was needed. The Hudo warming hut is closed due to damage from a fallen tree!
Annual Bean Feed is coming up next weekend on Sunday January 28th, noon till 3. Come out to the main cabin for some EPIC chili, hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee!
Tracking done Jan 13. Hudo will be done tomorrow Jan 14th!
The flu bug hit some of the volunteers so we apologize for not getting tracking done sooner! Tracking was done Jan 10, and several trees cleared on the track. Hudo and Pond Loop were not tracked.
Tracking of all trails was completed Saturday Dec 30, except for Pond Loop!
Tracking continued on Friday, completed the Hudo trail. Pond Loop has not been tracked, great for snowshoers!
Tracking was done on all trails except Hudu and Pond loop. Our 3 hard working volunteers were up there for almost 6 hours! Lots of snow! Happy skiing!
So the season has begun! Today Dec 9, our wonderful steady volunteers pulled the kiosk into it's winter position at the beginning of the trail head, and tracked the main road and one loop around the campground! Pray for snow!
Hello all fellow cross country skiers! The snow is not far off and our faithful executive have already been planning for the upcoming season. Please note the dates we have confirmed for the following events. Saturday October 21st, 9 am. Brush clearing and firewood gathering. Please come out and support our club, we'll be meeting at the trailhead parking lot. A light lunch will be provided. Wednesday November 15th, 7pm Annual General Meeting to be held in the basemen...t meeting room of the Beaver Valley Curling Rink. Sunday January 18th, 2018, 12 noon -3pm: Annual Bean Feed: Lunch and refreshments will be available at a minimal cost at the Champion Lake main cabin. Our faithful longtime executive is aging, (although they hate to admit it)! The club is in dire need of fresh younger volunteers to pass on the expertise and knowledge we have built up over the past 20+ years. We need help with ski cat maintenance, track setting, and executive membership duties. Without this influx of new blood, our club faces the real danger of not being sustainable long term. If you feel you could do even a small part in any of the volunteering, please don't hesitate to call Dave Elliott at 250-367-6406
Our Bean Feed event was a great success, thanks to everyone who came out to support our family day fun! And a huge thank you to all our loyal volunteers, and Chili makers! Always the best Chili in the valley!
Don't forget, the Annual Bean Feed is coming up January 29th from 12 noon - 3pm. New this year is the Family Fun Token Run! Kids will receive tokens along the trail which they can exchange for prizes at the main cabin! We encourage all families to come out, have some chili, or a dog, and enjoy the fun! Share to your page!
Cats are up and running again, and tracking was done Jan15th!
We are waiting on parts needs to repair BOTH our cats, so tracking has not been done after the recent snowfall. We are expecting this to be completed and tracking resumed by the weekend, January 14-16!
Tracking Update: all trails tracked Dec 30th, except Pond Loop Trail and Huff and Puff Trail.
