Brooklynn Landis BWS Senior Girls Volleyball Grads of 2021 We are honoured to highlight our last, but most definitely not least, graduating volleyball athlete, Brooklynn Landis! Just like her fellow graduating athletes, Brooklynn has been playing volleyball for BWS since elementary school. Brooklynn is an absolute warrior out on the volleyball court! Not only is she able to adapt to any position that she is put in under pressure, she also doesn’t ever give up on the ball.... Brooklynn's serve is unstoppable. If you’ve seen her play, you would know that her serve has some serious heat on it! Brooklynn quickly became such a strong right side this past season when we needed her to fill the role. Her sideline attacks and tips were her secret weapon, and she would dig up any ball that came her way. Brooklynn’s positivity on and off the court is so inspiring; her positive mood was infectious! She also was always one of the loudest cheer leaders on our team, never missing a celebration on the court in between sets! Something so special about Brooklyn is her dedication; she was one of the most dedicated players on the team. Even while recovering with an injury, she attended every single game and tournament to be there for support. Hunter Pratt | BWS Senior Girls Volleyball Grads of 2021 | We are honoured to highlight our graduating volleyball athlete, Hunter Pratt! Hunter has been playing volleyball for BWS since elementary school, and she has become a leader for her teammates over the years! She has such dedication to the sport, and her fierceness and smart plays on the court are so inspiring. Hunter is such an incredible asset to the team as she is such a versatile player; you can put her in any po...sition and she will rock that position without hesitation. Hunter stepped in as setter this past season when we needed her, and she quickly made that position her own. With her secret weapon of left hand swinging, she kept all our opponents on their toes. Hunter would have been our captain this season for her final year of volleyball as she is such a leader on and off the court. Even without having the title as captain over the years, she has always been a player that her teammates can look up to and learn from, and always supporting the junior players. On road trips, you’ll find Hunter throwing down the beats in a hallway party like she did in Westlock, or blasting the tunes for both the girls and boys volleyball teams on the bus or at the tournaments. Hunter’s positive and fun energy is infectious, and her hard work over the years really paved the way for the incredible volleyball player she has become. Shayleen Crapeau | BWS Senior Girls Volleyball Grads of 2021 | Today we are honoured to highlight our graduating volleyball athlete, Shayleen Crapeau! Shay has been playing volleyball since Elementary school, and she has played almost all of the positions over the years! From outside hitter, middle blocker, and most recently in the last season, libero. At first Shay tried out libero for fun, but it soon became a permanent position! Shayleen made libero her own by being the ...quickest girl on the court, and digging up anything that came her way. Shay wasn’t ever afraid to throw her entire body across the court to make a save or a touch, or even diving over another player that was already down to get to the ball! It is very evident that Shayleen is passionate about volleyball; her focus and fierceness on the court is inspiring. On road trips, you’ll find Shay belting out her favorite flashback song with the girls on the bus, or spreading laughter amongst her teammates. Ashley Michelin | BWS Senior Girls Volleyball Grads of 2021 | We are honoured to highlight our graduating volleyball athlete, Ashley Michelin! Ashley has been playing volleyball for BWS since elementary school. She always has an infectious smile on her face both on and off the court, and is continuously making her teammates laugh around her! Over her many years of volleyball, Ashley was a powerhouse in any position that she played. In recent years, she rocked the setters p...osition, constantly setting her teammates while hustling all over the court. Ashley had a few injuries along the way, but that didn’t stop her from being an amazing and supportive teammate while she was in recovery. She attended all of our games and tournaments while injured, and was the loudest cheer leader on the bench! This afternoon the 5/6 class got to watch the grade 10-12 students do a round of archery! The high schools students were excited to show off their new archery skills, and the 5/6 students got to see the process and the safety behind shooting a round! The Northland School Division

Our High School PE class did their first two classes of Archery training today with Ms. Dagenais, who completed her Archery certification this past weekend! We... spent two classes today going through all of the safety protocols, learning about the bow and arrow, and the 11 steps to archery success! This Friday, we will be celebrating 40 years of the Marathon of Hope! Our students at both BWS & ACS will be participating in a walk/run outside separately with... their class throughout the day! "As we celebrate 40 years of the Marathon of Hope, we have a new set of challenges to overcome. This year has been particularly difficult, to say the least, but we need you now more than ever! It’s Your Way in 2020 This year, the Run’s theme is One Day. Your Way. Due to public health concerns, we will participate in spirit, not in person this year. We ask that you continue to support cancer research by participating in and fundraising for your Virtual Run. We leave it up to you to choose how to celebrate your Terry Fox effort walk, run, dance, hike on a favourite route and with your favourite people. Most importantly, we need you to honour the day by fundraising for cancer research."

Living in a small community has great benefits for your children! Our largest class size at Anzac Community School, if all students attend is 18 students. Our l...argest Class size at Bill Woodward School, if all students attend is 22. This will help us maintain a safe environment during Covid 19.

To our families; As we are preparing for our staggered entry starting September 8th you will be getting a phone call from us to let you know which day you will... start on. Anzac Community School (grades k-4) will be staggered with 1/3 of the students coming Tuesday, September 8th, 1/3 Wednesday September 9th and 1/3 Thursday September 10th. Bill Woodward School (grades 5-12) will have 1/2 of the students starting Tuesday, September 8th and 1/2 starting Wednesday September 9th. All Bill Woodward students will come on Thursday September 10th. No students will come on Friday, September 11th so staff can meet to discuss if there were any issues we didn't think about prior to the start. We are following this process so we can give students orientation to new protocols and ensure their safety to the best of our ability. All students will start school full time on Monday, September 14. Your efforts are appreciated as we know it is not easy to teach some of the concepts that students have to learn. We hope you have been able to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones during this challenging time due to COVID-19. On July 21, 2020, Jason Kenney, Premier, Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education and Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health announced that in-person classes will resume under scenario 1, which is a complete return to school with health and safety measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Prior to the announcement, Alberta Education with support from Dr. Hinshaw, provided guidance documents to support school divisions with re-entry plans. NSD values the partnerships we have with parents and guardians. This year will be no different and it is more important now, more than ever, that our families and schools work together to support our students and to model healthy practices. The current pandemic makes our work more complex, but this work remains as important as it has ever been.
