As part of our new Sustainability Mandate, Bygone has committed to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as laid out by the United Nations. We want to show that it is possible for everyone to make a difference, so over the next month we are going to be highlighting each goal and what we are doing to work towards it. At the end of the month we will unveil our newly formed sustainability initiatives - Mend and Make Do, Vintage Aesthetics Not Vintage Values, and Indie Unit...e. Together we can work towards sustainable theatre, and with that, a sustainable world. . BYGONE’S SDG ACTION PLAN: . SDG 1: No Poverty Ticket discounts will be made available to disadvantaged and underfunded groups, both through select PWYC performances and partnerships with programs such as HipTix and CitySPECIAL. Our partnership with Value Village and their FUNDrive campaign extends this commitment to supporting those in need. . #SDGs #SDGactionplan #sustainability #sustainabletheatre #sustainabletheatresustainableworld #indieunite #MendAndMakeDo #VintageAestheticsNotVintageValues #UnitedNations #theatrelife #theaTO #torontotheatre See more

We are so proud to support this initiative which gives Youth a voice in the UN. Thank you to our board president Mark Terry for working to empower the future and for all the young people who contribute to creating that future. Make sure you share your videos, or this post to those who are interested.

Friend of Bygone/ our co-founder Matt McGrath has written a comic book and just launched a @kickstarter for it - check it out! #theaTO #torontolife #comicbook #torontocomicbook #torontowriter #Repost @matt_is_dumb with @get_repost ... Gather round, everyone! I’ve just launched my first Kickstarter campaign for my comic tiled, ID-10t error! It’s very nerve-wracking but also exciting! It’s a one-shot digital comic about a man who creates an AI robot...only so he can destroy it. But when his creation gains consciousness for the first time, it decides to do whatever it takes to survive. If you’re a fan on Black Mirror, I think you’ll really dig this book. To support just go to the project link in my bio. If you pledge 40 or 70, you can also be included in the comic!

We are devastated to learn of the death of Brent Carver, an actor of incomparable talent and a long-time member of our company. Brent was an artist who demande...d the utmost of himself, opening up his heart to reveal the pain and beauty of life. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Like Cleopatra, he had infinite variety: he was fire and air and he now leaves the other elements, earth and water, to this mortal life. Brent was a national treasure, performing on stages across Canada as well as in dozens of film and television roles. In 1993 he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Kiss of the Spider Woman. He was nominated again in 1999 for Parade. He also toured to New York in 2004 with the Festival’s production of King Lear, in which he played Edgar to Christopher Plummer’s Lear. In his nine seasons at Stratford he moved audiences in dramatic, comedic and musical roles. There was truly no one like him. He made his Stratford debut in 1980, playing Edmund Tyrone in Robin Phillips’s 1980 production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night, with William Hutt and Jessica Tandy. His other Stratford roles include Hamlet in both Hamlet and Rozencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead in 1986; Don John in 1987’s Much Ado About Nothing; Ned and Beatrice in the world première of Timothy Findley’s Elizabeth Rex in 2000; and Jaques in 2010’s As You Like It. His musical roles included the Pirate King in 1985’s The Pirates of Penzance; the Master of Ceremonies in 1987’s Cabaret; Tevye in 2000’s Fiddler on the Roof; Merlin and King Pellinore in 2011’s Camelot; and Pontius Pilate in 2011’s Jesus Christ Superstar. In 2010 he starred in Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, the musical that helped launch his career in the 1970s. His final performances at Stratford were in 2017, playing Feste in Martha Henry’s production of Twelfth Night and Rowley in Antoni Cimolino’s production of The School for Scandal. He was the best of us and represented the best in us. He was singular: an original in every sense. And yet his heart was so big it encompassed us all and made us one. Our thoughts are with his family and all who loved him.

#Repost @emilydixphotography ***NOTE: the deadline to apply for a free slot is August 7, 2020. The actual shoot date is still TBA, but will be sometime in August.*** WHAT: A photoshoot to celebrate Toronto indie artists, with priority given to marginalized artists (eg. slots reserved for BIPOC, Mad/Disabled, LGBTQ2+ artists). I would also like to prioritize those who work more behind-the-scenes as opposed to performers, as they are less likely to have the chance to get p...hotos of themselves done, but we'll see how many people are interested. I will include as many as possible. WHEN: TBA, August 2020 SUBMISSION DEADLINE AUGUST 7 WHERE: The Commons Studio - we are shooting here to help support The Commons, which is trying to raise enough money to stay open. Learn more here: https://stagedoorto.com/a-hail-mary-pass-saving-the-common/ WHY: Because the pandemic sucks. The whole state of the world lately, sucks. We need a break, and we want to celebrate the positives in our community, and give marginalized artists a chance to feel beautiful and show off. I will take whatever type of photo you want (within reason/ability), you can use it how you want, and I will include it in my online portfolio & share it on the Toronto Independent Theatre Coalition social media. WHO: I, Emily Dix, will be taking the photos. My boyfriend, Conor Fitzgerald, will likely be there assisting. Those being photographed will be members of the community that apply here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HWGTNWX HOW MUCH: free! But I will happily accept tips to help cover the costs of the equipment, space and cleaning supplies. COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: I will allow up to 10 people in the studio at once. When you are not being photographed, you need to have a mask on - we could do some fun mask photos as well! We will have 70% isopropyl alcohol to wipe down surfaces, and everyone will be asked to sanitize their hands when they enter. No one will be allowed in if they show any symptoms. Obviously, we cannot guarantee there will be no risk, so use your best judgement. #theaTO #torontotheatre #indieunite #torontophotography #torontophotographer #theatrephotography #

Repost from @the.titc More highlights from our recent community survey. 73 Toronto indie artists let us know what they’ve always wanted to try but haven’t had the chance to - 32% said they wanted to be a reviewer/critic, 21% said they wanted to try directing, and nearly 20% said they wanted a chance to design. The main barriers listed included; lack of opportunity for those new to the role (eg no mentorship or training and no chances for the inexperienced), lack of time and ...lack of money. See the full results on our website. #theaTO #torontotheatre #indieunite #TITC #theatrelife #survey #torontolife #repost @ Toronto, Ontario

Bygone Theatre 05.07.2020

Repost from @the.titc Another insight from our recent community survey, we asked what people disliked about the Toronto indie theatre community. Over 81% said the low/no pay opportunities, nearly 56% stated the barriers in transitioning from indie to professional, and over 54% said they dislike the exclusivity/cliques. So how do we change this? We want to start with breaking through some of these cliques and forming a stronger, more diverse community that has space for all artists. Check out our website to learn more. #theaTO #indieunite #torontotheatre #community #torontolife #TITC #repost @ Toronto, Ontario

IMAGE: What do you like about Toronto indie theatre? Of those surveyed, over 73% said they liked the creative productions, nearly 57% stated opportunities for emerging artists, and 55% said they liked the experimental works. #theaTO #indietheatre #indieunite #TITC #torontotheatre #surveyresults #repost @ Toronto, Ontario
