We remember. The Ridgeway Nine. Nine young men died during an obscure (some say purposely hidden) chapter of Canadian history: the Battle of Ridgeway and the Fenian Raids. Click below to read about it. It happened in 1866 and historians consider that it was a catalyst to the establishment of the Canadian Confederation in 1867.... Most of the nine young men were buried in Cabbagetown, in either St. James Cemetery or the Necropolis. See more

We remember. Captain Arthur Roy Brown. An ace pilot during one of WWI's great battles, Brown was flying after and behind the Red Baron and is credited with the downing of the infamous German pilot. The Australians were shooting at the Baron from the ground and contested the kill. But the fact remains that Brown was the one in agressive pursuit of von Richthofen. Brown survived WWI. He tried to enlist during WWII but wasn't accepted as his years as an ace pilot had taken thei...r toll on his body. He died in 1944 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Cabbagetown's Necropolis, just a few metres from a marker installed a few years ago by The Last Post Fund. Hopefully, one day, his remains will be moved closer to his marker. See more

We remember. Captain William Arthur Durie. Killed in action near Lens, France in 1917. Buried in France near where he fell. His body was repatriated (spirited out!) by his mother a few years later and buried in Cabbagetown's St. James Cemetery. Read the whole story in a Toronto Star article posted in the comments.

We remember. Those who survived the war only to be brought down by the Spanish Flu days after their return. You can see their graves in Cabbagetown's Necropolis, near the intersection of Rosedale Valley Road and the Bayview Extension.
