Meet Kim Martin, née Coffin, one of the cadets, originally from 242 Fredericton Army Cadets (Atlantic Cadets) who was part of the Everest Base Camp Expedition 10 years ago. We recently caught up with Kim - she shared what she is up to now, and what skills she learned in cadets that still serve her well today. 1. What are you up to now?... Currently I am employed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and I have three children. I also instruct dance lessons and work another part time job on the side. 2. What is something you learned in cadets that serves you well today? Empathy and being a team player; on the many courses I took in my cadet career, we were tested very frequently on these. Especially on the expedition to Mount Everest once we reached the mountains, obstacles started presenting themselves along our way. Team members were becoming tired/sick from altitude and we had to try our best to help them so that the trip could go on. ‘You’re only as fast as your slowest member’ is something that always stuck with me because we can’t just leave our team behind. 3. If you had a piece of advice for a current cadet, what would it be? Take opportunities when they arise, be proactive find solutions before things become a real problem, and take in all the experiences that you get. I am still in disbelief that it’s been 10 years since my trip to Nepal but the trip itself was life changing.

Listen, we're a little apprehensive when our fave artists drop a holiday album, but soon those songs become classics. We're not saying the #GetCyberSafe holiday playlist is BETTER than another cover of Santa Baby... but it totally is. Visit getcybersafe.ca for more tips and tricks for the holidays! ... 10 years ago a group of cadets and officers embarked on the adventure of a lifetime when the International Army Cadet Expedition went to the Everest Base Camp. Over the next couple of weeks stay tuned while we share where they are now, the impact cadets had on their lives, and what they want to share with this generation. Meet Emanuelle Mazeau who was a cadet at Corps De Cadets 2617 Régiment De Maisonneuve in Montréal, Québec.... What am I up to now? Originally from Montreal, I now live in Gaspé, Québec, where I am studying distance education in social work. I am the mother of two children, aged 5 years and 16 months, I work as an educator in a CPE and I am involved (although I am currently on leave) as a civilian instructor at 1933 RCACC in Gaspé. The Cadet Program introduced me to the outdoors and I wanted to do more in my life, so I moved from Montreal to the Gaspésie region. I enjoy back-country skiing and hiking, but also a little canoeing, running and mountain biking. I wanted to return to the mountains which we have a lot of here. The outdoors is really something that never left me. One thing I learned as a cadet? Perseverance! When you do something like a 21-day trek to Everest Base Camp, there's a point where everyone hits their wall and has to push themselves through. Moreover, looking back ten years later, I realize how important an expedition it was. At 18, we don't really know what's big or small and now I realize the magnitude of the challenge. It's a learning experience that I transfer each day. Quebec Cadets #CadetAlumni

10 years ago a group of cadets and officers embarked on the adventure of a lifetime when the National Army Cadet Expedition went to the Everest Base Camp. Over the next couple of weeks stay tuned while we share where they are now, the impact cadets had on their lives, and what they want to share with this generation. Cadets has had a lasting impact on so many young Canadians and we proud to share where their experiences have taken them.

The strength of the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers is rooted firmly in our people. Today, we proudly showcase Master Warrant Officer Mike Manny, currently serving as the Executive Assistant to the Command Chief Warrant Officer, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff. MWO Manny, a Regular Force musician by trade has been volunteering with various cadet squadrons for more than 16 years. This passion for our youth programs led to him taking a 4 year out of trade posting with Nort...hwest Cadets as a Training Support Coordinator. Our now retired, Formation Chief Warrant Officer, Bill Crawford approached MWO Manny with a challenge - to compose a march for the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers. As always, MWO Manny showed up and delivered an exceptional piece of music dedicated to CWO Crawford on the day of his retirement. The march is currently with the Directorate of History and Heritage, and in the process of being designated as the official march for the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers Formation. So, we are proud to present for the first time: The Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers Formation March, "To Honour Those who Serve the Youth of Canada".

Meet Katie Barron one of the cadets, originally from Cobourg Army Cadets - Corps 88 who was part of the Everest Base Camp Expedition 10 years ago. We caught up with the talented artist recently, and she shared what she is up to now, and what skills she she learned in cadets that still serves her well today. Where are you now? I am now living in Canmore, Alberta in the heart of the Rocky Mountains where I now work as an artist and spend time skiing, biking, and climbing in the... mountains. What did Cadets teach you? Cadets taught me valuable skills in public speaking and leadership which has allowed me to professionally present myself as an artist during panel discussions and exhibitions. What advice would you give to this generation of cadets? My advice would be to take advantage of as many programs and opportunities that come your way. The friends and connections you make along the way will stay with you for years to come. Check out Katie's work at www.ktbarron.com #CadetAlumni

On Remembrance Day (11 Nov), TVOkids did a feature on the Cadet Program -- highlighting Leading Cadet Saphira Bickle with Bancroft Sea Cadets, RCSCC Viking, which is part of SEOA in Ontario Cadets. Saphira's passion for the Cadet Program was very obvious as she explained how her involvement helps her -- and her fellow cadets -- develop citizenship and leadership skills in their local communities. The cadet story begins at about 5:25 -- with Saphira on screen until about 9:10.... It is followed by interviews with cadets, from a 2019 episode, for more than two minutes. #CadetsIntheNews #SeaCadets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgxMvuScRJ0

"I am incredibly proud of the small, yet meaningful gestures and actions cadets and JCRs take to show their respect for veterans and their sacrifices. You are clearly demonstrating that the next generation of canadian leaders will not forget those who gave their lives to defend the values that define canada." Commodore Kurtz, Commander CJCR

Journeys and life can be complicated. For some, cadets ignites a passion that guides their future. For Tim Doering the Everest base camp expedition was just the start of his passion for the outdoors and sharing it with others. What are you up to now? After graduating from Algonquin College I spend my summers roofing and my winters skiing, cross country, snowshoeing, snowboarding. I am currently healing from a major injury that left me temporarily in a wheelchair and in a pos...ition where I had learn how to walk but I am on the road to recovery. What is something you learned from the cadet program that serves you well today? Cadets mostly taught me life skills, and how to be a decent human being and a good employee overall. What is your advice for the next generation of cadets? Do your best, benefit from the program and all it has to offer. Tim thank you for being an excellent example of perseverance, and following your dreams. 2817 Lindsay Army Cadets, Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment Ontario Cadets #CadetAlumni
