Today we're introducing Member Mondays! A new way for us to do a little member promotion (and realistically, a little bragging) throughout our social channels on the regular. Today's member spotlight is CAFTCAD board member (and soon to be new Vice-President) and Vancouver-based costume designer, @allisa_swanson ! Allisa's latest work, Firefly Lane, was just released to Netflix at the end of January and it's attracting a lot of buzz! The 10-episode series follows best friends... Tully and Kate over the span of several decades. No small task, Allisa and her Assistant Designer, Katharine Wigzell set out to every thrift store they could come across and started pulling a van full (and cube truck full) of vintage clothes to start their stock of the many decades of fashion! . Wanna know some fun facts? Allisa and Firefly Lane lead actress, Sarah Chalke, knew each other back when they were kids and actually went to modelling school together (see picture 5). They did a number of shows, runway, theatre skits, and TV movie back in 1999 together before reconnecting while filming Firefly Lane in 2019. Another fun fact, Allisa's own daughter Emily got her chance in front (and behind) the camera when she background as a flower girl in the wedding episode and spent the majority of the time on the dolly helping out the camera guys! OUR WEEKEND WATCH this weekend doubles as some shameless member promotion! If you're like us, you've already binged the full first season of the high-anticipated book to TV adaption of Kristin Hannah's Firefly Lane. CAFTCAD board member (and soon to be new Vice-President) Allisa M Swanson is the Costume Designer behind the multi-decade costume design showcased in this series. No small challenge, Firefly Lane jumps between the 1960s all the way up to the early 2000s as it tells the story of lifelong best friends, Tully and Kate. CAFTCAD is excited to announce our new panel series: Working with Other Film Departments, presented by Cinespace Studios, ACME FX, and the Director’s Guild of Canada! Starting this April, these panels include reps from several departments to provide a broad-strokes overview of what they do and how they interact with other film departments with an emphasis on their relations to the costume department specifically. . Panel 1: Above the Line in Management kicks off the series on... April 17th and will help us understand more about the roles of Producers, Directors, Cinematographers, Production Managers, and Production Designers. After that, we dive into Panel 2: Creative Departments Heads on April 18th and end with Panel 3: Crew Collaboration on April 24th. . In Memoriam: CAFTCAD is saddened to share that Martino (Khanh) Nguyen passed away on Monday March 8, 2021. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. He will be missed. . Martino has been an integral member of the Toronto costume community for over 25 years. It seems like almost every show sent alterations or builds to his company Martino Nguyen Designs. His support of CAFTCAD over the years as a Costume Industry Support member and sponsor is truly appreciated....
