At Cairn, we know our 4S's, Safety, Stewardship, Servanthood and Self-Esteem, help us make good decisions when we live together in community. But have you heard of the OTHER set of 4S's?! Well... yes... there's slip (on a shirt that covers your shoulders), slop (on some sunscreen), slap (on a hat), and slurp (lots of water), the 4S's of sun safety.... But there's ANOTHER set of 4S's! On CBC's The Current, Angie Elliott shared the 4S's of self-care during a pandemic: Shower, Stretch, Sunlight, and having Something Specific to do each day. If you've been anxious, or struggling with motivation, or uncertain of what to do with your pandemic days, start with trying these 4S's each day. (Thanks for sharing this with us, Dalah!) #LiveTheExtraordinary #SelfCare

Throwback to the delight of a cold popsicle on a hot summer day! This cabin is showing off just how colourful their tongues get during popsicle snack. But the real question: Purple, Pink or Orange? #tbt #throwbackthursday #summercamp #glenmhoralumni #cairnalumni
Could this be you? Camp staff begin their summer as compassionate, invested, kid-centered individuals seeking to do something meaningful with their summer. What happens next? Here are a few things that Cairn staff have said at the end of their summers working at camp:... - "I gained confidence" because camp teaches its leaders how to act with purpose and intention; - "I've become addicted to the growth" because at camp, there are always opportunities to be challenged and apply yourself in new and creative ways; - "I've learned how to be adaptable and flexible, and that's a skill you can use literally everywhere" . Staff applications for Cairn's summer 2021 season are open! Visit http://ilovecamp.org/staff-counsellors.cfm for more information. #LiveTheExtraordinary #DifferenceMakers #SummerCamp

"The lessons and friendships learned at summer camps cannot be understated. Children learn independence and self reliance, confidence and life long skills, one of the most important being how to get along with others in many different situations. There are too few opportunities for kids to be free from parental supervision but still guided by caring young trained adults, and in this day and age free from electronic devices. Camp encourages a life long love of nature and respect for the environment. To lose these wonderful opportunities for children through to young adults would be a terrible tragedy and society will not be better for it." Good Monday morning, and Happy Thanksgiving! This year our Thanksgiving celebrations may be looking a little different. Whether you're eating turkey, enjoying the fall colours, alone or with others, know that today we are grateful for you. This weekend, make the time to go for a walk - whether it's around the block admiring the squirrels and signs of fall, or by a lake, or in a forest. For a different take on "a walk in the woods", take a look at this article about the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing: https://time.com/5259602/japanese-forest-bathing/ -- Life is getting busier. And as it does, we sometimes need those reminders to take a pause. Every weekend, we will be sharing an article, resource or idea of... what you can do to help take that pause. One of the faith practices that we live out at camp is Retreat, and while it may seem more natural at camp, we can incorporate that into life outside of camp as well. #sundayisadayofrest #sabbathpractice #retreat
"Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves. As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals." Check out this article from Harvard Medical School about gratitude: https://www.health.harva...rd.edu//giving-thanks-can-make-you What will your gratitude practice be this Thanksgiving weekend? #thanksgiving #grateful #gratitude #livetheextraordinary
