Now that November is upon us, I should probably mention that I'll be at the Greenfield Community League on Nov. 30 selling paintings and sculpture, but also tree ornaments made of polymer clay! Here are a few of my latest creations (I have yet to add hangers to them). https://www.greenfieldcommunityleague.com/
Happy Monday, folx! This weekend, I put the finishing touches on several clay pieces, including this one a bowl inspired by sea life.
For me, art has always been a solid friend with whom I can reconnect after even the longest absence. But after 2012, art and I didn't talk much for a looooooong time and I wondered if, this time, we would lose touch forever. Why? Well, first, I had a baby (by emergency c-section! 0/5 stars, do not recommend!). When that baby was two years old, a weird mole got weirder, and I was diagnosed with melanoma. After the cancer was treated (thankfully, surgery got it all), I realized... I needed to leave my common law marriage. Finally, years after dealing with the aftermath of all of these things, I began to make art again: a drawing here, a small painting there, a small whatzit in polymer clay. But I only began making art in earnest this summer, after taking a garden sculpture class (taught by the very kind and talented Ritchie Velthuis at Edmonton's City Arts Centre). Here is one of the creations I made in July and painted over the long weekend. What is it? Uh, it's a planter obviously? It's got proper drainage to be a planter, but most likely it will contain candy over Halloween. I'm delighted to have broken through my creative block. After seven long years, I'll be posting my art again on this page. And, in the new year, you'll be able to find me and my art at events around Edmonton. Thanks for your support.
