The Calgary Canoe Club is now CLOSED for all on water programs for the season. THANK YOU so much to everyone that rented a canoe this season and of course all of our awesome members. Your cooperation helped us get through a successful, crazy season. We look forward to seeing you next season when things will hopefully be back to normal. Keep an eye on the website for opening date plans for early May 2021.
We have entered life jacket season. Think of it like a really prolonged, warm hug throughout the whole practice.

These people just paddled 20km with 4 portages...and they’re smiling. Paddlers, what an odd species
The tiger and the lion may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn’t perform in the circus. Oscar Choza.
We are back to regular instagramming after a solid week of coach kudos! Fall is in full force on the reservoir and our athletes are killing it with their training. Keep working hard, setting goals and think with the goals in mind.

Day 5 of coaches week, todays spotlight is our women's kayak coach Ornmadee! There is a lot of unseen work that goes on that most of us take for granted. Orn is our unsung hero who helps plan fun activities for all our kids, then spends extra hours making sure it goes off perfectly. Shes responsible for a lot of the great action shots that have been shared over the years as well. And a fantastic coach to boot! You wont find someone more dedicated or passionate about helping our athletes succeed in all they do. Huge thanks to coach Orn! #thankscoach #womenincoaching #rolemodel
Let’s hear it for our para-Coach, Sam Parmiter. #ThanksCoach for being the backbone to the para-program the club! Sam inspires all of the athletes at the club and often joins in with our men’s kayak to give them a little boost, keep them on track and keep them humble Sam has been coaching at the CCC for 3 years as the para coach but has coached out east for several more. He’s extremely knowledgeable, innovative and welcoming to every one who calls the CCC home. Say #ThanksCoach to the out-of-the-box thinkers and believers!
Happy Wednesday! Today we’re saying #ThanksCoach to our Men’s Kayak Coach, Graham. If your athlete has been around the club for the last 9 years, Graham was probably one of their first coaches! Graham has been paddling for 18 years and had humble beginnings like most do, as part of the Learn 2 Paddle camp. In fact, he might’ve not even become a paddler because in the days leading up to it he didn’t even want to go! Graham is the resident boat care guy; he spends his time show...ing athletes how to care and fix their boats and is the boat doctor to many of our boats who have seen better days. He can be found printing extra boat parts using the 3D printer and is a champion at fixing the race course when the racing season starts. He coaches his athletes with calm demeanour, positivity and a passion for helping them push their limit. Say #ThanksCoach to those who helped you get started! See more
Another day, another coach! Today we’re saying #ThanksCoach to Coach Lynda, who heads our outrigger programs and is also our club manager. It takes a certain level of poise, knowledge, leadership, compassion and attention to detail to keep everything and everyone afloat and we appreciate her so much for it. You might see her paddle over to the club, or you might see her in Hawaii, wherever the outrigger takes her team. She’s been many athletes’ first boss, mentoring generations of boat bay staff and coaches. We can assure you, there’s so much grunt work that goes on that many people never see and Lynda is at the heart of it. Say #ThanksCoach to those who know work ethic, compassion and strive to keep the bigger picture in mind!
Today we celebrate our Men’s Canoe coach, Robin Kendall! Did you know he was actually a kayaker all the way up until he was 16? Growing up in Nova Scotia, he raced for Maskwa before making the move to Edmonton and racing for GERCKC, then Wascana and Calgary. Robin is still training as a competitive athlete, a student in University and a great mentor to so many athletes around our club. He is always taking extra time to go over technique with his team, provide feedback and is a great support as they go for big! #ThanksCoach ! His coaching philosophy follows the famous words of Steve Prefontaine: To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
Happy National Coaches Week! We start the week off by saying, #ThanksCoach to our Head Coach, Mike. Mike’s a familiar face around the club to the ‘06 generation of the CC club as he brought the club to a balanced competitive, recognized level that still fostered that ‘family’ feeling. Originally from Nova Scotia, he trained as a competitive athlete out there and began his coaching experiences at several of the clubs. He’s since had experience coaching at Rideau and Wascana. H...e is often seen doting over his dog, Tessa, and staying past practice hours ensuring the club continues to look ready for our athletes, practices are set to promote success, and working with the discipline coaches to ensure we are ready as a coaching team to elevate our team to greatness. Say, #ThanksCoach to those who see greatness in you, expect it of you and hold you to what you’re capable! See more
