Calgary is a Buyer's market. Since oil prices fell in 2014, home prices have also come down gradually. The benchmark price of a single-family home in Calgary fell six per cent over the last five years, the report finds. That’s down $30,800 to a price of $466,000, and makes Calgary the sixth least costly market among all urban centres surveyed. Apartment condominiums experienced an even steeper decline in price over the same span, the report reveals. The benchmark price is now... $248,500, a drop of 14 per cent in five years, a $41,900 decrease. The national average for a single-family home, in contrast, grew by 40 per cent over the last five years to $683,400 while the benchmark price for a condominium grew by 52 per cent to $478,700. And prices in Greater Vancouver, for example, grew by 63 per cent for condos and 28 per cent for homes. Greater Toronto also saw prices rise 78 per cent and 51 per cent, respectively. Haw says the study reveals Calgary’s affordability makes it one of Canada’s most attractive markets. Quite frankly, I wish I could live in Calgary, says the Torontonian.
