Hi Everyone, Let's take a moment to recognize what day it is today. Remembrance Day is a time to remember all those individuals who fought to keep the freedom alive for us today to enjoy in our wonderful country, Canada! IF you can brave the cold, there will be a small gp of us intermediate players going to play today btwn 3-7 pm, $5 (daytime session). Remember to properly warm-up before hitting the courts to prevent possible injuries.... Also, if you want something more competitive and want to help out a great cause (Kidsport), there's a badminton tournament going on this Saturday up at the University of Calgary. For each group submission, you'll have to enter a separate online form. There will be prizes from their proud sponsor, Li-Ning as well. However, the evening session from 7:00 - 11:00pm will be open later on this day for keen, avid players! Otherwise, the rest of the long weekend will resume with usual operating hours, 9:00 am - 10:00 pm.... HaPpY EaSteR!

Greetings Fellow Badminton Players, We've missed out on many of the usual faces hopefully b/c you've been out enjoying the summer and now that fall / [winter... =( ] might be here, I'd like to take this opportunity to extend a welcome back for our usual players & any newbies. Here's the agenda for discussion:... 1. Possibility of changing the schedule b/c Thursdays nights will ONLY get worse as the winter months come: a) we have to consider court rentals or b) suggestion: Tuesdays 7-11 pm, Fridays 7-11 pm & Sundays 12-3. 2. There's been a request for awhile now that more than a handful of you would like to start a playing schedule at Clear One. I, however would not be managing this...if someone* is interested now is the time to step forward. 3. The possibility of adding going to the Edison Courts (Okotoks) for the players living in the south perhaps once a mth / more. 4. So this is a social club after all and thus far we've managed to organize a ski event, dim sum (Chinese New Yr's), hiking & several outings to go eat outside. What would you like our club to be doing? CORRECTION: The package sessions for evenings & wkends remains at $72 for 10 sessions; there has been NO PRICE INCREASE. Annual membership fees remain at $25. On a sad note, ='( Belinda, our co-organizer / admin has decided to step down from the position. *If anyone would like to volunteer in her place, we would gladly welcome a new / regular face.* There would only be a requirement to be present at least a few times a month on the courts. (It's difficult to introduce new players to the club w/o being a regular.) Michael, our co-organizer has been sidelined with an injured shoulder which he exacerbated after having a cycling accident this summer. =( Please if you see him, wish him an expedient recovery! There's also been a handful of you injured or recovering...I want to take this time to wish you all a quick recovery. Greetings fellow badminton players, Just a few minor updates at handhopefully most of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving last month! I didn’t expect to be outta town during the holidays. Firstly, do NOT come to the Sunridge Badminton Centre this Saturday, November 8th expecting regular drop-in sessions. The Calgary Lite Series Sanction Badminton Tournament starts at 9 am and from what I have been told ALL courts have been booked for this event for the entire day. Also, sess...ion pkgs (evenings & wkends) have increased to $75 for 10 sessions (on the bright side, there has been no increases for the last 10 months; I was told by someone in July however they decided to keep it the same afterwards.) I do have to apologize everyone. I said I’d have the survey out by October to establish what days we want to play onso far Monday nights 7-11 pm is the only definite one. I will try to get this out before the end of this month. Over the next month as well, I will be gathering fellow players’ contact info in an effort to have things streamlined for efficiency; there will be no more personal texting of reminders. If you want up-to-date information on what other times we are gathering during the week, I will post them on the club page or please contact me through Facebook and if that isn’t convenient then I suggest email. Greetings fellow badminton players, For the diehard players (or ones who want to make a dent in all that eating, lol :p) during the holiday season, a bunch of us will be playing tmrw afternoon from 3:30-6 pm. The SBC is open from 9-6 Xmas Day. Daytime drop-in is a special deal, $5 and last 2 hrs (4-6 pm) before closing is $3! Calgary Badminton Social Club UPDATE: The Sunridge Badminton Centre will NOT be making players who have prior purchased sessions convert to the new price increase which takes effect tomorrow, Monday, November 18th. Good Evening fellow badminton players, IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: Starting Monday, November 18th, 2013 (a wk from today), wkend pkg sessions are going up from $60 to $70 for 10 sessions. (If you have been keeping up, you'll know we recently had an increase in Sept when the price went from $60 for 12 sessions to $60 for 10.) Yearly membership will also accordingly go from $20 to $25. I imagine that wkend drop-in may stay the same at its current $8/session. FYI, Richard no lo...nger is part owner at the SBC either so I don't know if we'll be able to renegotiate a better pkg deal. Keeping this in mind, I've discussed things with our administration team and here are some options, we have thus far brainstormed (you're welcome to contribute / offer differing suggestions): 1. Attempt to renegotiate a better wkend deal for the Calgary Badminton Social Club at the SBC. 2. If the new manager won't negotiate then we can buy the current price of $60 for 10 sessions before Mon.Nov.18th so that will give us 2 1/2 mths to consider other options. 3. This may only sound appealing to people who are in the northern quadrants of the city however we can try to move our Saturdays to Clear One Badminton Centre. It would be for 1-4 pm. Their yearly membership is $20 which also includes an initial 3 free sessions. Drop-in sessions for wkends are currently $6/session or $100 for 20 sessions ($5 anytime daytime, evening, wkend / holiday). Keep in mind though that their flooring is hardwood. I would also arrange a time to negotiate with Clear One to see if a) their 20 session pkg can be used on more than one player and b) if they can offer us a better deal b/c we are a badminton club with numerous players. Other than that for the avid badminton players there's the Kingsboro club (in the south) which plays various Wednesdays & Fridays through to June 2014. Also, there is a the Hardside club in the SW which plays on Wednesdays. Hi Everyone, This coming Monday, October 7th, we will be renewing the wknight pkg at the Sunridge Badminton Centre. It will be $80 for 13 sessions ($6.15 each); normally it's this price for 12 sessions. If you cannot make it, you can always call and leave your membership # with your credit card and let them know that you are part of the Calgary Badminton Social club. Greetings fellow badminton players, Just some housekeeping updates for all of you who play at the Sunridge Badminton Centre, if you're new, welcome! As of August 1st, 2013, if you have any old wkend passes which you purchased in a deal, they cannot be used on the wkends. I'm told that they will honour the outstanding value which can be transferred towards weeknights / daytime periods. New price for wkend admissions are as follows:... ***PLEASE NOTE***: They have extended the sale on the new wkend pkg deal to Saturday, August 11th. $60 for 12 sessions; that's $5/session! Otherwise, it is $8/session each time or $60 for 10 sessions. For any clarifications, you can talk to me, Helen / the Sunridge Badminton Centre staff. You will not need to mention the club in order to get this deal, however if interested, please purchase before the above mentioned date. Sawadeekap my friends! Thailand is treating me well. After a week in the big city of Bangkok I have traveled to Pattaya an hour way. I got a chance to play Badminton a few times, at 30C+ temperatures without AC or fans. Super hot but fun. Great players. My next stop is Phuket for some Muay Thai Boxing. --- Gregor

Only 5 days until the BEC Annual Delegates' Meeting in Bratislava, Slovakia. The ADM is an opportunity for Badminton Europe’s Member Associations to meet each other, discuss and decide on matters concerning the Confederation.

Don't forget, Monday is a kids tournament until 8pm. So we will likely not get courts till 7:30 or 8:00pm. See you then!
