Thank you to AltaGas Ltd. for nominating us in the #3Things4Neighbours challenge! We’d like to celebrate three acts of kindness that the Calgary Health Foundation was able to accomplish through the generosity of our donors. We have nominated Sprung Instant Structures and Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn South Calgary to highlight their three acts of kindness!
We’re very grateful for all of Sunterra Market's hard work behind the scenes to support our Feed The Frontline campaign! We’re also thrilled to be able to show our gratitude to health care workers by providing them with nutritious household meals! Notes of appreciation from frontline staff continue to pour in. While most of us are asked to stay home, our frontline health care workers put themselves at risk every day responding to the increasing demands caused by this global pandemic. The Calgary Health Foundation has a special way for you to show your gratitude and encouragement for frontline health care workers with our campaign! We have partnered with Sunterra Market to provide a holiday meal for our health care workers. Local artist Dale Ward is supporting our Campaign in partnership with Sunterra Market to provide a holiday meal for our health care workers! Dale Ward is a Calgarian comedian and artist who contracted COVID-19 in November and required urgent medical care. His initial symptoms included constant fever and chills, lack of taste and smell and the worst headache he’s ever had. As the infection escalated, it triggered severe asthma symptoms and he struggled to br...eathe. Fearing for his life, Dale was admitted to Foothills Medical Centre for critical care. Developing pneumonia as a result of COVID-19 only added to an already scary and life-changing experience. As Dale begins his road to recovery, and like so many people who have been afflicted by and survived COVID-19, he recognizes the extraordinary healthcare heroes who helped him breathe again and encourages others to stay healthy by following public health guidance. Thank you so much to Dale for sharing his story and supporting our campaign! Learn more and donate here: https://bit.ly/38lLVX3 #HealthcareHeroes
These are just some of the message of gratitude donors have left on our site in support of health care workers in our campaign! With the holiday season fast approaching, our doctors, nurses, and other health care workers continue to go above and beyond to help protect all of us and to care for everyone in need. That's why we launched the Feed the Frontline campaign with Sunterra Markets to provide a holiday meal for our frontline because many of them will not have time to shop and make dinner at home. For only $30, you can provide a health care worker and their family a holiday meal and be their hero... as they've been our heroes throughout this challenging year. You're showing your support for health care workers like Nurse Jen, who works at Foothills Medical Centre’s Emergency Department. "I am so proud to be a part of the amazing team at the FMC ED. Staff have been adapting to constant changes, stepping in to support patients whose families are not able to be with them, being a constant conduit of information with their loved ones and demonstrating the true meaning of teamwork. We are here to help but we also need your help: wear your mask, wash your hands and stay home if you are not feeling well." Donate here: https://bit.ly/38lLVX3 #HealthcareHeroes

Meet Belinda, she's the Vice President of Engagement & Advocacy at the Calgary Health Foundation! "Advancing breakthroughs in care, wellness and research is one way I can show gratitude to the extraordinary healthcare practitioners who’ve enhanced my quality of life through transformative surgeries, neonatal intensive care and prompt emergency services. Sooner or later, we all depend on the healthcare system. And when we do, we want the best possible outcome. That’s why Calgary Health Foundation’s mission is relentless." Thank you for everything that you do, Belinda!
After having their baby born at just 23 weeks and 6 days, a Calgary couple is hoping to bring awareness to the need for continued funding and research for preterm births in Alberta, which has one of the highest rates in the country of babies born prematurely. Thank you to Global News and to Patrick and Molly Wilding for sharing their story and emphasizing our Newborns Need campaign! For most of us, the holidays are a time of joy and warmth. But for the families spending the season in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, they are a time of worry and concern. Help us send them well-wishes and support this year, because together we can make breakthroughs possible. Here are just some of the Snowflake Messages of Hopes that you've sent in hung up at Foothills Medical Centre's NICU! Thank you so much to the Unit Manager, Pauline, for helping us and making sure th...e NICU parents and staff are able to see all these wonderful messages! Be part of someone's story and send a Snowflake Message of Hope! A simple message of hope can have a big impact on families in hospital during the holidays. Simply write your message where prompted and we’ll add it to a snowflake and make sure it makes its way to just the people who need it most. https://www.calgaryhealthfoundation.ca/snowflake/
Salima Dharshi was pregnant with twins. She knew her pregnancy was going to be high-risk but what she didn’t expect was to go into labour at just 27 weeks. Salima was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre. The Foothills Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is the only NICU in Southern Alberta that has the ability to support families who require the specialized care Salima and her extremely premature twins needed to survive. For any expectant mother this would be a very scary ...moment. Preterm birth is the leading cause of death in children under the age of five worldwide and in Canada it is the leading cause of infant loss. Because of our donors, Salima’s twins received the critical NICU care they needed to survive. Salima said her preemie twins were as small and fragile as little kittens when they were born. Today, they are eight-years-old and thriving! This holiday season, will you help us help families with our Snowflake Campaign? From care to research and wellness, together we’re dedicated to making breakthroughs possible. Help us bring a message of hope to families in NICUs this holiday waiting for their breakthrough. Simply write your message where instructed and we’ll add it to a snowflake and make sure it makes its way to just the people who need it most! https://www.calgaryhealthfoundation.ca/snowflake/ #WorldPrematurityDay
Like 1 in 8 infants born in Alberta, Maya needed the support of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. For 66 days, the NICU provided Maya and her family with the care they needed to help Maya become the healthy and happy baby she is today. We’re 2/3rds of the way to meeting our fundraising target that will help us empower NICUs across Calgary to transform the lives of more children just like Maya. Help us make a difference and donate today: calgaryhealthfoundation.ca/maya #WorldPrematurityDay
The Southern Alberta Neonatal Transport Service (SANTS) helps save the lives of hundreds of sick and at-risk newborn babies by providing critical care during quick and safe transports between health care facilities throughout southern Alberta. Thanks to donors like you who help us fund for this program, it has become one of the most successful of its kind in the nation and we're able to save hundreds of lives, including Ellie Russell! Healthcare Heroes: Calgary's Operational Stress Injury Clinic leads way in trauma recovery. There are just 11 clinics in the entire country, including one in Calgary. These clinics are unique because they serve those who serve us like Veterans and Military. But the Calgary clinic in particular stands out among the others as a leader in innovation. "We seem to have a group of people who can be early adopters in some of this new stuff and I think it's allowed us to be creative ...in our work, to offer a really wide range of services for our patients." Said Dr. Kaitlin Chivers-Wilson, one of the innovators. Watch the full clip from Global News here: https://bit.ly/2GLCAxJ
