Bruxism is simply defined as the act or habit of grinding one's teeth. But what are the causes of this habit? How can it be treated, or prevented? Many different things can cause the grinding habit. Commonly, the habit can be caused by stress and is a response they may not even notice they are doing until they've damaged a tooth. Treating the effects of bruxism can be done from recommending a patient use a mouth guard to extreme cases of crowns or implants to replace a broke...n tooth. Preventing the habit itself may also require an analysis of where stress is coming from in an individual's life, stress therapy, or lifestyle changes to remove that stress.
