People of Prairie Rose - Cari After I finished my post-secondary education, I found I had extra time on my hands and I wanted to use that time to give back to the community. I did research on service organizations and found that the Canadian Progress Club was a 100% Canadian organization that offered a great mix of helping the less fortunate and fellowship. So, I joined the Calgary Prairie Rose chapter of the Progress Club and found a fantastic group of enthusiastic ladies. W...hether we are volunteering, socializing, or attending a Progress Club national convention, we always have a great time together. One Progress event that was particularly meaningful to me was volunteering at the Special Olympic Alberta Winter Games in 2019. Seeing all the Special Olympic athletes, their coaches and their families cheering and having fun really moved me and I was so proud to be involved. After nearly 22 years in the club, I’m still enjoying my time giving back! See more

People of Prairie Rose - Marlene I found Calgary Prairie Rose Club when I was looking to add some volunteer work to my life a few years ago. When I came across the club ad, it was appealing to me to join a group of women who were not only serving the community, but also making friends and having fun. Since I joined six years ago, my experience has been rewarding in many ways. I have gained a new awareness of so many different organizations in Calgary doing good work and needi...ng help from the community. Although the Club mandate is to support Women’s Health and Wellness, we have helped many different causes through our community service and funding. I’ve also enjoyed friendship and met Progress people from across the country through local fellowship events and national conventions. Conventions give you an appreciation for the national Progress organization and the valuable work that Clubs across the country are involved in. And there is fun and comradery as well. I have some fond memories of my travels to 3 national conventions, particularly when we met in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The added bonus was travelling to a destination on my travel bucket list! Most recently, our community service supporting Operation Christmas Child was particularly enjoyable for me. With the pandemic imposing so many restrictions on our lives these days, being in a Christmas setting, listening to carols and working alongside other club members to bring joy to less fortunate children around the world, was fun and rewarding.
People of Prairie Rose - Joanne. I have always volunteered. Growing up on the Prairies in Saskatchewan the 4-H club and CGIT were my early inspirations for community service. I chose the Prairie Rose club because I liked the idea of volunteering with a group of like-minded ladies. My favorite Progress event was volunteering at the Women’s Center Toy Room last Christmas. It was one of the first volunteer activities I did with the club. It was nice to be able to help people who were relying on the Toy Room donations to make their Christmas season brighter. Wrapping the gifts was very rewarding and everyone was so appreciative.
Volunteering at WINS (Women In Need Society) sorting clothes to go for sale at the WINS stores around Calgary.
Thank you to everyone who donated during our June donation drive for the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter! The numbers are in and Prairie Rose provided CWES with a cheque for $5,000 to match June donations. We appreciate your support for this excellent organization.
With a little help from our friends (Calgary Downtown club) we bagged groceries at the Community Kitchen Program Calgary that will help 1700 families
