Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) can be treated and some even cured. Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are two serious STIs that can be cured with antibiotics, but if left untreated they can cause infertility in men. Not everyone who has contracted these STIs experience symptoms, but those who do might notice milky or yellow-green discharge from the penis and pain or swelling of the testicles. Please keep in mind that it is best to take a proactive approach when it comes to STIs. Protect yourself by using condoms, knowing your sexual partners, getting tested (your sexual partners too!) and by talking with your doctor immediately should you have concerns.

Women and men can experience fertility challenges at any age. Those challenges are different for each person. Fertility does begin to decline in women after the age 35 because of less frequent ovulation and a reduction in egg quality and quantity. For men, sperm quality decreases with age. If you are over the age of 35 and have been trying to conceive for 6 months or under the age 35 and trying to conceive for 12 months unsuccessfully, please talk to your doctor.

Ovulation is essential to getting pregnant. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a condition that affects 6-10% of women. PCOS causes a hormonal imbalance that interferes with ovulation: the growth and release of eggs from the ovaries. This disruption results in infertility. The good news is that PCOS symptoms are treatable. If you have concerns, reach out to your doctor for a true diagnosis and path forward to optimal health and fertility.
