Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Let’s take a moment to honour and remember trans people around the world whose lives were lost in acts of anti-trans vi...olence and do what we can to end transphobia. We see you. You are loved. Each of us embodies activism and fights for change in our own way. It has become clear in this generation-defining year that to make the changes we need, we wil...l have to use every tool at our disposal. There’s a false dichotomy between overhauling a system and changing it from within. Meaningful change requires policy-makers, and the activists who critique them. It requires casting ballots, and sometimes taking to the streets. It requires realism, and an appetite for revolution. These tactics complement one another, and are most valuable in concert. They are all necessary. They all offer a path forward at this critical moment. We must focus on how they and we can work together.
The Intergroup Relations Lab Team at the University of Calgary is conducting a qualitative study examining motivations for engaging in collective action in support of LGBTQ+ individuals. See the posters for more info! If participants are eligible to participate, they will be invited to complete an online/phone structured interview regarding potential motivations for engaging in collective action. During the interview, the personal relationships (such as friendships/social networks) or experiences of a participant related to collective action engagement will be discussed. The interview will be 30 minutes to 1 hour (max) long. Participants will be compensated with a $15 E-gift card upon completing the study participation.

Sharing this info from the Canadian Virtual Hospice -- the organization is partnered with Health Canada and working with the Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ community to address a gap in resources regarding advanced illness, end of life and grief. At a tough time of life, family dynamics, discrimination, disrespectful or inadequate access to care, financial concerns, and fear of having to "return to the closet" if admitted to a health facility can add to the challenges. The organization is seeking stories, either positive or negative, about navigating the health system, seeking care for themselves or someone they know, providing care for someone, preparing for end-of-life, or living with grief: their experiences will help shape and inform the resources. See the image for details.
