Over the weekend I attended two fantastic events that took place in our constituency of Calgary Skyview. On Saturday, the PCA- Pakistan Canada Association Calgary put together an impressive celebration of Pakistan's Independence Day while on Sunday, I attended the "Elder Abuse Seminar" organized by the Global Pravasi Seniors Society. An event that aimed to bring awareness to the issue of senior abuse. I would like to thank both organizations and their volunteers for putting together such successful events.

Today, many including myself, are celebrating India’s Independence Day; An important milestone for any country that values its’ history, diversity and culture. I wish all those who are part of the greater Indian mosaic the most festive of celebrations.

Today, I would like to wish all those who are part or are connected to the Pakistani community both in Canada and around the world a Happy Independence Day!

On the special occasion of Eid al-Adha the Festival of Sacrifice, I would like to wish everyone celebrating both in my constituency and around the world a sincere, Eid Mubarak! May you celebrate surrounded by peace and love.

Today is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. As a result, I would like to salute all those who are of Indigenous backgrounds and their communities. As Canada moves forward with reconciliation, all of us should take some time to learn more about the history and the languages of our First Nations neighbors. https://www.un.org/en/events/indigenousday/

It is with great sadness and regret that I've received the news of the passing of not only a great colleague but a close friend, THE HONOURABLE DEEPAK OBHRAI. I've known Deepak for decades and he had always been a very supportive and caring person.Throughout his remarkable career in the public sphere his focus on human rights aimed to ensure a fairer, more equitable society not only for Canadians (both old and new) but for all people around the world. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. May his outstanding legacy console them in these difficult times. Rest in Peace Deepak!

The prospect of a new arena/events center is an exciting idea, however, what perplexes me is the small window of time that Calgarians have to provide some crucial feedback to this proposal. A week is simply not enough time to fully understand the impact of this project on tax payers, businesses and both current and future projects/programs that are crucial to our city. https://www.cbc.ca///calgary-proposed-arena-deal-1.5221185

One of the events that I most look forward to, every year, is the Stampede Breakfast hosted by The Genesis Center in my constituency of Calgary Skyview. This year, like many years in the past, the breakfast was outstanding, the entertainment was delightful and the overall atmosphere was befitting of the greatest outdoor show on earth. Thank you to all the volunteers, organizers and entertainers that worked together with the Genesis Centre and the Calgary Stampede Caravan Breakfasts in order to deliver such an outstanding event. #CalgaryStampede2019
