We would like to take a moment to show some appreciation to the majestic bald eagle this weekend, as it is an iconic bird that graces our Alberta landscape and even downtown Calgary. If you are lucky enough to have spotted a bald eagle fishing along the Bow or Elbow rivers, you know that it is truly a magical experience that takes you right out of the city and into the wild. Winter is the best time to view them in the city because our rivers remain fast moving and unfrozen in many parts, creating the best opportunity for hunting fish! The next time you are strolling one of the river pathways, look carefully in the trees and skies. You might just spot one!

2020 has been a big year, full of so much it is hard to even put into words. We have all seen a lot of changes, and a lot of growth. The Calgary Wildlife family is optimistic about the coming year, all thanks to the amazing support of our volunteers and public members such as yourselves! Thank you Calgary for everything you do, and for keeping us alive and motivated during even the toughest of times. The animals need us, and we are happy to be able to continue to serve them!

This saw-whet owl was released yesterday in SE Calgary, back to the location where he was found, just one block in from Fish Creek. This little saw-whet found his home amongst urban evergreens, close to a good source, but with protection from the great horned owls who also live in the area and prey on saw-whet owls. Look at those eyes! (Video of release is in the story).

A 2020 highlight - these geese were released this past fall after coming to us as goslings. Calgary Wildlife is all about helping animals live the lives they were meant to live, and thanks to your generous donations, Calgary, we can continue to do just that.
