CaliCan Rescue 05.04.2021

Our two boys are very different in how they receive their treats. Charlie will inhale on the spot, but Harley prefers to walk to his hamburger-shaped oversized bed and indulge. How do your pets enjoy their treats? And what is their favourite? (Extra smiles if you have a homemade recipe)

We have to send big props and love to our super awesome friends at Berkeley's Place for the stroller donation!! Our lovely 15 year old pug gal, Bella, is enjoying the beautiful weather as she overcomes her health issues from a few weeks ago. Doesn't she look like royalty? ;)

Interesting facts...and a fair amount of humour (particularly the end) :)

Billy: "Hey guys!! It's been awhile since I last popped my fuzzy cute little head in! A lot has happened - but everything is turning out amazing for me! My original CaliCan Adopted Momma was such an amazing Hooman who gave me the very best life I could ask for. Sometimes, though, life takes an awkward turn. Rather than keep bouncing me from home to home until life settled, Momma decided it was best for me to find a new home. CaliCan often says, in these situations, that it me...ans us pups fulfilled the work we were supposed to. I tend to agree with that - Momma was great and it was an amazing adventure to be part of her family. But now I get to bring an incredible amount of joy to my New Momma and Paw-paw! She enjoys all the lap cuddles I can possibly give, and he enjoys having a buddy to walk with. I bring them smiles every day, and I ensure that they have an appropriate place to provide dog-friendly table scraps ;) I'm so grateful to my new family, and will forever hold a soft spot in my heart for my previous family. I gave them what I could and they gave me what they could, and we were fine. And I want them to know I am fine now too."

Pineapple: "Dear Most Adoring Fans - I know you have been waiting on PINES and APPLES (isn't that the phrase? no? can it be?) for results on my recent ultransound. I had to wait a little bit because, it turns out, that I really take very well to sedation and was a little...I think the word is high?...so needed to take some time to rest. Thank you to Foster Momma, Andrea, and Foster Daddy, Matt, for looking after me. I have to say, without my loveliest friends at Rutherford Ve...terinary Clinic, that ultrasound would have been super scary! You're in a dark-ish room, with a new person, flat on your back (k that part's actually relaxing). Your tummy gets shaved and a warm gel applied, then this cold plastic-feeling device pushed on your belly. While they ran their wand over my belly, I kept getting called a good girl, a pretty girl. I have a fan club. Well we got the results back. I DO NOT HAVE CANCER - YAY! That's the positive (rather "paws-itive) takeaway. But unfortunately my levels in my liver keep rising. With Dr. Naguib and team, we will be monitoring this as I go on supplements. I'm not going to let this get me down, cuz I'm a Cool Canine, as you can see in my dapper wear. I will enjoy my best life, with your help, and make sure that I live as healthily as I can. Largely so I can find these amazing wardrobe finds, but MOSTLY so I can keep on giving you something pawsitive in these worrisome times. So please, send your prayers, be concerned, but know that with my Foster Pawrents, I'm in great paws. And Rutherford & Dr. Naguib too will make sure I get what I need. But sometimes being a high maintenance diva of a snooze-hound, I might cost this wee rescue some monies they don't have. If you have a few spare bucks to send their way, could ya? http://www.calicanrescue.com/donate Thanks all! K off to snooze cuz this write-up took a lot of energy. <3

We have likely shared this before, but who couldn't use this extra smile and "aw" today :)

Our hearts are broken once again. Sweet Sanctuary Girl, Lola, gained her Rainbow Bridge wings today. She had far too many complications with her late stage congestive heart failure, and we and her loving Foster Momma, Tania - along with the amazing team at Southfork Animal Hospital - decided it was not right for her to suffer. Lola came to care a little more than 2 years ago. Tania took her in and gave her the most amazing care, loving her more and more every day. Lola brough...t much joy and laughter, and as time went on she rocked the life of a dog in a stroller for her walks. Her independent nature, coupled with a super sweet disposition, will truly be missed. We want to extend our condolences and hugs to Foster Momma Tania at this time.

Sanctuary Pup, Pineapple, is cute as can be as she's wearing off the light sedation from her abdominal ultrasound. Sweet girl is so out of it, she first seemed grumpy at Foster Momma Andrea and the wonderful team at Rutherford Veterinary Clinic (little does she realize in this dog that she's in the best paws pawsible) She even refused food! We will keep you all posted on her results as they come available.... If you wish to help for her care or any or our other fosters in care, please visit: http://www.calicanrescue.com/donate :)
