Our final author talk of the series will be with Meredith Talusan , author of Fairest, her memoir about a Filipino boy with albinism whose story travels from an immigrant childhood to Harvard to a gender transition and illuminates the illusions of race, disability, and gender. Looking for a fun way to celebrate Easter in a safe and socially distanced way? Join in on our community egg hunt! We have two levels of difficulty: Level 1- Clues are written out clearly (Perfect for younger kids!) Level 2-Clues are word scrambles you can decipher. (Perfect for those who want a bit of a challenge) ... As you find each egg, take a photo (or a selfie with it!)...once you have found all six, return to the library to claim your prize! We have a very exciting virtual Forest of Reading program coming up on January 23rd. Participants can pick up their box fort kit, and throughout the week, build their dream box fort! We will all meet up on the 23rd to show off our builds, and join Robin as she reads the Blue Spruce Nominee, Boxitects by Kim Smith...from the comfort of her very own box fort too! Its sure to be a whole lot of silly fun, while learning about architecture and being creative. This program is limited to only 10 spaces, so be sure to register early. This weeks puzzles are out of quarantine and ready to go! We are especially excited by PUZZLE H...it is designed for a family of varying ages to complete together! How clever! If you are new to puzzling, or simply like keeping yours, fret not! You do not need to exchange a puzzle to participate. These puzzles have all been generously donated by our community and are here to keep you safe and entertained in lock down. Have you noticed our trees out front? Each tag on the tree represents a book that was read by a child as part of our Forest of Reading program. We are so excited to see that it’s starting to fill up fast! This year we had a record breaking number of kids sign up so far (over 50!) Bored in Lockdown? Never Fear- The Callander Public Library is here! We are so excited to announce the creation of The Callander Puzzle Exchange Program. This program is free to anyone in the community. Simply contact us ahead of time by selecting a puzzle in the images included in this post, and we will get in contact with you to arrange a curbside pick up of the puzzle. You can then trade in an old puzzle with us via our dropbox (placed inside a plastic bag please!) ... Don't have a puzzle to trade? Don't worry! We have loads here already to get you started. All the puzzles have been donated by members of our community, and quarantined here at the library to ensure the safety of everyone. It's time to get building! You and your family are invited to join us for a virtual activity of LEGO building! All you need is some space, an Internet connection and computer or mobile device, a bucket of LEGO, and imagination! Join Robin as she hosts a LEGO builders challenge, where kids can use our spinner toy to challenge each other to unique LEGO builds. Join a private zoom meeting with your kids to share, show and describe what they build!... Spaces are limited for this event. Pre-registration is required to participate.

Join the Callander Public Library as you attempt to prep your spaceship for departure! But beware as one crewmate will be an imposter bent on eliminating everyone! Crewmates can win by completing all tasks or discovering and voting the imposter off the ship during emergency meetings. The Imposter can use sabotage to cause chaos on the ship making it easier to eliminate others and create stronger alibis. This program will meet through Zoom and is available through two differen...t session. Session 1 @11am- age 8-12 Session 2 @1pm- age 13+ The game Among Us! can be downloaded on your smartphone or tablet for free, or on your Switch for $7.00. Registration is required. A reminder email will be sent to all registered participants with the Zoom meeting ID and password. This is an online event.

Bats are so cool and smart! Today, we learned that bats are one of a few species aside from humans and dolphins that talk to specific individuals rather than general statements to the group. How cool!! (Yes, Sara is obsessed with bats. If you want to know why, come and ask!)

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Thanks to the enormous success of our week long podcast series for Ontario Public Libraries Week in October, we have decided to make it a permanent part of our programming line up. We are looking for authors of all ages to submit a story to be read and produced into a collection of bedtime stories. Listeners from around the world will be able to download and listen to a new bedtime story every night through their favourite podcasting apps!... Authors are permitted to submit up to three original stories. We will post new episodes every Monday, and will be ready for your little ones bedtime.
