We are soooo excited to announce that our landscaping is complete! Evergreen Landscaping exceeded all of our expectations and really crafted a beautiful, functional and fun space (Beautiful for the humans, Functional for the cars, Fun for your dog!). You'll love the improvements we've made to our country setting, with dedicated handicap parking and an improved entrance. Congratulations Callander! You now have an off-leash area for your pets to romp -- any and all of you are welcome to use this space whenever you wish. Special thanks to our sponsors for the Pet Park project: Evergreen Landscaping and Even Greener Gardens.

Covid-19 has been detected in dogs and cats, but there has been no evidence that it can spread from them to humans. There have been a few instances of cats developing symptoms after catching the disease from their humans, but COVID is still a human-to-human disease. I've written a more detailed post on our website if you want to read a bit more: https://callanderanimalhospital.ca//10/29/covid-and-our-p/

Our 2 sweet guinea pigs are looking for a family to hang out with over the Thanksgiving holiday. Don't worry -- the provincial health minister totally overlooked guinea pigs in their guidelines for physical distancing!!! They're omission = your gain! I promise cuddling with Peso and Milkshake will help you and your kids (almost) forget that they should be visiting with family this coming weekend. And these cute little critters would love to help polish off any left-over salads. Get your kids to send me a letter : [email protected]

A busy on-call weekend for Callander. I have seen 5 blocked cats this weekend!! One boy has gone home to happy parents earlier today, but 4 blocked cats are keeping me company tonight!! By blocked, I am referring to a frustrating problem male cats have called "Feline Lower Urinary Tract Syndrome". The worst case scenario for FLUTD is a complete urinary obstruction somewhere in the penis, making it impossible for the poor boy to pee. This is an emergency situation that requires a vet visit, sedation, a urinary catheter, and a hospital stay. Not nice. My suggestion for anyone out there with a male cat is encourage water intake, feed him canned food, and try to feed a preventative food that prevents crystals and encourages drinking. ... now where's my coffee....
