As someone who overindulges on mystic books, with a TBR list well on its way to becoming a tome of its own, it took me an embarrassingly long time from The Creative Tarot’s publication in 2016 to when I began to devour it. Tarot books of the How-To variety are a tough one for me. On the one hand, you want to read them if you are a beginner to get the basics down, or stay sharp if you are more experienced with tarot. On the other hand, How-Tos of any kind can feel at times u...ninspired, sterile, tedious. The kind of tarot books that tickle my brain are ones that welcome the reader into a universe where they can fully embody the swords, cups, coins, and wands as they read! Explore new perspectives & turn known ideas on their head (swords), illuminate cards that once blended into the deck for you, allowing you to see yourself in them for the first time (wands), redirect or enrich your feelings about the cards, their history, or how you wield them in your life (cups), and of course, how to spot the many ways card energies manifest once in the wild (coins)! This was my delicious experience consuming @jessacrispin ’s The Creative Tarot: A Modern Guide to an Inspired Life when it finally leapt from my bookshelf and slapped me in the face with its vivid yellow cover! (Figuratively, of course.) Her exploration of the 78 cards through the lives and works of creatives & artists was the personal language I needed to re-ignite my tarot practice & education - not to mention creative projects - and shake off my how-to blues. I found her original spread offerings insightful and potent, clearly shaped by someone with a deep understanding of the tarot and creativity, harmonizing them flawlessly. They impressed the heck out of me, and I definitely see myself revisiting them! If you are a creative or artist of any type (aspiring or seasoned) this might be your next sacred text, too! See more
