Today is National Tree Day, so take a moment to step outside and express gratitude to the trees in your neighbourhood. In honour of Tree Day, Call of the Forest is free to view for the entire day. #NationalTreeDay #NTD2020

"This whole project about planting trees was an act of hope." Fantastic work by the Diana Beresford-Kroeger Book Club in Windsor, Ontario! After seeing Diana speak at the Pelee Island Bird Observatory, this group of women came together to plant one hundred trees in their community.

The government is standing on the edge of a knife with competing interests on both sides, Fiege said. We have 30 years of old growth left, maybe less with biodiversity needs and the needs of the planet. This is really only a step in a long journey.

"Experts say that with care and under the right conditions, the tree could live another 200 years or more." Toronto residents are seeking to preserve this 250-year-old red oak. Even though this tree has heritage status, the lot won't be purchased and transformed into a parkette unless the City raises $430,000. So far, only 30% of their goal has been met.

Stopping climate change in its tracks can feel like the impossible," writes Beresford-Kroeger. "The latest science tells us that as of 2019 we have just ten years to halt global temperature rise . . . . But my life and work have taught me that nothing is ever as dire or insurmountable as it seems, and that the natural world’s powers of regeneration and restoration stretch far beyond our understanding.
