Calm & Creative Studio 09.11.2020

Just learned this new word from a friend's post on FB. Love it so much, I wanted to share it...(I coddiwomple all the time, but didn't realize there was a charming term for it.)

It feels great to engage in creativity for a cause! I made and recently donated these 8 tote bags to Wilmot Family Resource Centre in New Hamburg for distribution in their Christmas hampers. This batch of bags was made with a bunch of fabric I inherited from my aunt's mother-in-law. Thanks Valerie Krokoszynski (and mother-in-law, Ruth) for giving me such a generous gift and allowing me to pass that gift along to others.

Science is showing something many of us already know from personal experience. We NEED creative expression to flourish!

I found this article about sun salutations very interesting. My experience has been different from the author's in that I have taken lots of yoga classes that did not involve sun salutations at all, and most of the classes I teach don't include them either. I didn't realize they were so widely used. I agree with what the author is saying about them not being suitable for many people for many reasons. That's true about a lot of poses, actually. It's important to remember that ...we are each unique individuals and what works well for one person may not work for another. There is no one-size-fits-all yoga. And, to make things more complex, your own individual needs will vary over time. It's wise to think of your yoga practice as a journey of self-exploration. Pay attention to what your body is telling you each time you practice, and listen to those inner nuggets of wisdom. (Don't just follow along with what an instructor is saying if it doesn't feel right for you in any way. And, you may need to try out many different yoga styles and instructors to find one that feels like a good fit for you, but I believe that everyone can find a yoga experience they will love from among the myriad of options available.) I'm delighted to announce my return to teaching yoga & creativity, with a focus on mental health. You can check out details about what I've got planned on my newly-launched website, www.calmandcreativestudio.com. Check it out! (So far, I've got classes and workshops planned at Atlas Yoga Studios & Retail Store in Cambridge starting in January. But, I'm open to adding more options to the schedule in different locations, so if you've got any suggestions or requests, let me know.)
