Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know. A few pointers from a pro can change everything . Google Alberta Force Free Alliance for a list of qualified local trainers. Many come right to your home for a very reasonable fee, one short visit can make a world of a difference.

Remember anyone can call themselves a dog trainer. If they are using pain, fear or intimidation in anyway, they do not have the education you and your dog deserve. Another red flag, many try and mimic TV personalities rather then get an education and understanding of actual dog behaviour. Most of those personalities don’t even have an education if you look a little closer. But it sells! And that’s what they are after, your money! Often they have inflated egos do to the whole demanding alpha role they dangerously cling to despite its being proven incorrect for many many years by science. It sells. Don’t give these bullies, these fakes, your business. Do your homework. FORCE FREE = science based dog behaviour.

A few weeks ago, #ColdLake Police Dog Services Cst. Jason Jaques and Police Service Dog Harp were deployed to a community in eastern Alberta to assist in locati...ng a 5-year-old boy who was reported missing from his home. Harp is a 5-year-old German Shepherd who, when it comes to locating people, uses his powerful sense of smell to locate their scent in the prevailing winds or on the ground where they have walked. A police dog such as Harp can track a person despite extreme weather conditions and several hours of time delay. Once on scene, Harp was able to locate a track that led to a shed where the young boy was located safe. Harp quickly and efficiently located him, reuniting him with his family. Harp lives with Cst. Jaques and his family in Cold Lake. Police dogs are no different than most pets in their down time at home. Harp enjoys relaxing in the back yard with his pal Raven, a mixed-breed rescue dog. Despite Harp's strong personality at work, Raven runs the show at home. #PoliceDogs
