Alvan is completing some finishing touches on this body-powered transhumeral (above elbow) prosthesis before handing it over to the wearer. Transhumeral prostheses are usually operated by two distinctly separate control cables. One cable serves to flex the prosthetic elbow joint and to operate the device. A second cable permits the amputee to lock and unlock the prosthetic elbow.

Our technicians were hard at work today shaping this transfemoral prosthesis with a cosmetic cover. The process involves measuring the sound limb and mirroring it on the opposite side while we shape it.

Here is a picture of a recently laminated socket where we have utilized a shuttle lock. The shuttle lock threads into the socket lamination anchor and offers a secure connection between the liner and prosthesis. The button that you see on the medial aspect releases the unit when taking off the leg.
