Here's another shot I would like to share, from a studio shoot in February right before COVID stole the show. I consider this as fine art portraits as it involves planning from clothing, colors, props, and lighting. As you can see though, the efforts are worth the results:) I certainly look forward to doing this again once the pandemic is behind us.
I like to create collages for my customers. It’s a nice way to capture the experience of a photoshoot, plus at 17 X 11, it’s a cost effective way for you to print and frame the event. This is from my last session of the year, of a lovely family and a couple of adorable twins. Taken by the ice caves at Fish Creek.
For this shoot I had a Norman Rockwell vision in my head, so we rounded up the props, planned the shoot and made it happen. This is a fun type of photography, but much more of a production. It's a lot of work, so naturally it's going to be a bit expensive, but the results can certainly make it worth it.
What I like about being a photographer, is all the great people I get to meet and the different opportunities that arise. While I really enjoy family photography, I often get presented with new and interesting challenges, and I'm always up for something new. One of the recurring jobs I have is for Best Version Media, shooting the magazine covers and images for the stories. Lately, I've been getting assignments to photograph their 'pet of the month' feature. So, without further here are some photos from my last two shoots!
Taking photos to help people get great images for dating sites, is quite interesting. There are some do's and don'ts, but the goal is to help them show a bit about who they are and have some fun.
What do you prefer - natural or edited effects? Editing images and adding artistic effect is an extension of a photographer's creativity and can give your images that special look. However what the photographer likes vs what the customer may like, can be quite different as art is subjective. If you don't like the editing in your photos, be sure to let the photographer know as they can provide images with minimal editing upon request. After all, what the customer wants is most important. Here is an example of an image I edited to create some effect. View it large and you will see a painterly effect, though not on the subjects as I try to not overdo it but walk that fine line between realism and creativity.
Here are a few shots of John, Dorothy, and Jett. A lovely young family. These were photos I did for a magazine, but now the pandemic is quite out of control, so back to 'outside only' shoots for a while. I usually select some images and make them black and white because it really brings the focus to the soul.
The autumn is fading fast now and the parks are busy with families getting their yearly family photos. Great photos of your family as it grows is priceless and a pleasure to look back on to see how everyone has changed over the years. When it's professional photography then it's even better! Here's a session I did over the weekend. A very nice family.
Did you know... that the colours you choose to wear makes a BIG difference when it comes to photos? It's true. If you look at an image where the colours fit together well, it's a very comforting eyeball experience. Indeed, having colours that blend with the scene will take the image to the next level. In fact, I always make the following recommendations to my clients about what colours to wear: 1. No Whites. Why? Because the camera does not like it. It fools the camera light... meter and can make it difficult to get a nice exposure. Also is too bright and draws the eyes away from the subjects in an image. 2. No Black. Why? Mostly for the same reason we don't want white, but black often looks too dark and loses detail in images. This creates a negative space in the image which can be distracting. 3. No Bright colours. Why? They may look nice to the human eye in real life, but in edited images it looks terrible. 4. No strong patterns. Why? Because it is a distraction to the eye and often the images become dated as styles change. So what works for good images? Pick from mid tones - that's colours that are not too dark or too bright. Your photographer should be able to work with you on this. For fall, with the autumn foliage, here is what I recommend for some colour choices. Not only will the images look great, but you will look great in them, and that feels good:) You can google fall fashion palette images or look on Pinterest for other ideas too.
A nice family shot done in Stanley Park. The little girl was so cooperative. I was impressed:)
Did you know that outdoor photography sessions are a safe way to get your family photos during Covid-19? I practice safe distancing while working with families and it does not impact my ability to get great photos. The fall colours will not be around long so contact me to book your session now.
