Are you spending more time at the #supplement store than the grocery store? You’ve got the most expensive pee in town, buddy! Now, don’t get me wrong, supplements can be a supplement to an effective diet and training protocol.... But it’s the last bit of icing on the cake, not the cake itself! It’s the last 2%. If you’re thinking those BCAAs are going to be the difference maker, and yet you hit the drive-thru for most of your meals, you’re majoring in the minors. And you'll have a minor league physique to show for it ;) Whole foods, #calorie control, regular #exercise where you aim to get stronger snd push yourselfs are going to drive the majority of your results. Now there are individual nuances and you can expedite the process if you know what you’re doing, but that edge isn’t found in the supplement store unless the clerk is injecting your glute with something in the back storage room Ya feel me? Focus on the fundamentals first. Then ya can get fancy later.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room... Most busy parents can get their workouts in. But without addressing this, they'll be setup to fail.... And that' sleep quality and duration. Poor night's of sleep can increase hunger and appetite. You move less and eat more. A bad combo if weight loss is your goal. A study found that after 4 hours of sleep, participants ate an average of 559 more calories the following day compared to when they were got 8 hours. It’s something I’ve put a ton of emphasis on. Some things will be outside your control (i.e. stress, kids and hormonal factors like menopause) but we’re going to focus on what you CAN control here. Here’s my routine: 1. I read for at least 10 minutes before bed. I try (not always successfully) to have all screens off one hour before bed. If you go right from an intense TV show to bed good luck. 2. Magnesium citrate. 150mg (Don’t do oxide). I also like melatonin (3-5mg) when I'm having trouble falling asleep, 3. No coffee in the afternoon. If you’re a fast metabolizer it’s probably fine, but I am not. Caffeine can mess up my ability to fall asleep if I drink it too late in the day. I also ensure I get my strenuous exercise in before 6 pm (if I wait until 8 or 9 I can't wind down after) 4. Dark, cool bedroom. Try to keep electronic screens out of there. 5. A good mattress. You spend 1/3 of your life on it so make the investment. We actually got one of those memory foam add ons and were super surprised how well it worked (and it wasn’t that pricey!) Tiger Woods shot a 10 (!!) on the par 3 12th hole during Sunday’s round of the #Masters. That’s 7-over par for those scoring at home. On one hole. But check out his scorecard for the rest of his round... 5 birdies in 6 holes. That’s how you respond to adversity. And it’s a microcosm for dieting. Some will slip on their diet and get into that F IT mindset where they just pile on more damage with bad choices. I want you to stop beating yourself up over a Snaccident or pizza overindulgence. And respond like Tiger did... But doing better next time. Because, remember, you’re never more than one good meal (or hole... in golf) from being right back on track. And just like no one ever got Arnold jacked from one workout or ripped from one salad... Neither will you gain 5 pounds of fat from a few too many slices of ‘Za. So relax. Stop beating yourself up. You must change your relationship with food to win the war in the long run. Enjoy it. Then get back on plan. Sure, you can’t screw-up more often than you succeed if you want to make progress, but by no means should you strive for perfection, either. So just get back up. Forget that bad "hole" or "goal" and live to fight another day. That's the real secret.
