The humidity has dropped and so has the Bank of Canada qualifying rate! As of today the qualifying rate used for the mortgage stress test has dropped to 5.19%! This is the good news for home buyers, along with the recently announced First Time Home Buyer Incentive which will launch September 2nd, more of your clients will be able to afford to purchase a home.... The qualifying rate is used in stress tests for both insured and uninsured mortgages, and a lower rate means it is easier for borrowers to qualify.
