Congratulations to CSSC skater Aaralyn McGill on winning the 2020 OSSA Skater of the Year Short Track Female Award! Aaralyn had a very successful short track season. She competed at Canada Cup 2, Ontario Winter Games and was set to compete at the Canada Cup Final. In long track Aaralyn competed at the Canadian Junior Championships, Canada Cup 2 and earned a spot at Canada Cup 4. Aaralyn was also awarded OSSA’s Kit Jarosz Memorial Trophy for the Fastest 500m Female in the province. To round out Awards Week we are excited to present the Fastest 500m Female and Male awards! As you can see our two award winners were neck and neck this season. John Millar won the Fastest 500m Male Award with a time of 46.61 and Aaralyn McGill clocked in at 46.83 to earn the Fastest 500m Female award! Aaralyn was also awarded OSSA’s Kit Jarosz Memorial Trophy for Fastest 500m Female in the Province. Congratulations John and Aaralyn! Our Long Track Male Skater of the Year is Scott Taylor! Scott got 10 PBs during a busy season. He earned spots on the podium at the Charles Jewtraw All-Around Championship in Lake Placid, the Ontario Provincial Long Track Championships and the Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid. Scott represented Team Ontario at the Canadian Youth Long Track Championships in Red Deer. In short track Scott earned 6 PBs and represented CSSC at the Ontario Winter Games. Our Long Track Female Skater of the Year is Aaralyn McGill! Not only excelling on the short track, Aaralyn had an extremely successful long track season. Earning 7 PBs, Aaralyn competed at the Canadian Junior Championships and Canada Cup 2 and was set to skate at Canada Cup 4 in March. Our Elite Male Skater of the Year is Maddox Champagne! Maddox attended every elite meet this year and earned 10 PBs. He was part of a medal winning relay team at the Ontario Winter Games and qualified as an alternate for the Canadian Youth Championships. Congratulations, Maddox! #cambridge #speedskating #awards

We are thrilled to announce a three way tie for Elite Female Skater of the Year. What a testament to the hard work these girls have put in this season, with each receiving 7 PBs. Aaralyn represented the club at Canada Cup 2, Ontario Winter Games and was set to compete at the Canada Cup Final. Emily competed in 4 short track meets and qualified for the Ontario Winter Games. In Long Track Emily skated at the Canadian Junior Championships, Ontario Provincial Championships and medaled at the Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid. Roslyn hit the ground running in her first year of Elite, competing in 5 meets and qualifying for the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships in Sherbrooke. We had a tie for our Provincial Male Skater of the Year! Cameron Barker participated in all four Western region meets and earned 10 PBs. Felix Paiement participated in five regional meets and also earned 10 PBs. Although it’s not how we had hoped to end the season, the health and safety of our skaters and their families always comes first.
