Last week, I visited Seymour-Hannah Arena for the COVID-19 vaccination clinic run by Niagara Health. I was invited to get #vaccinated by the Ontario College of Social Workers as I have been seeing clients in person for therapy sessions. I was incredibly impressed with the organization of the Niagara Health staff and with how seamlessly the vaccine clinic was run. I received my booking email on a Friday and was sitting down getting the shot on Sunday! I haven’t had any side ef...fects to report; aside from a bit of fatigue and arm soreness the day after I #gottheshot. Keeping my office open during the second lockdown was initially a difficult choice for me, given the escalation in cases in Niagara and my young family, but I felt it was of vital importance to do my part to provide continued access to mental health care for my clients. I believe everyone deserves the same access to mental health care, regardless of their circumstances. Not everyone has access to reliable high-speed internet or a private, confidential place to hold virtual sessions. I look forward to getting the second dose of the vaccine and moving one step closer to a return to pre-COVID life, here in Niagara Region. #InItTogether #FeelingGrateful

Some insightful words from the one-and-only Dr. Suess. Although his books were mostly written for toddlers and children, Dr. Suess’ messages celebrate our differences and empower us to be ourselves; something that applies to all ages. I have been reading Dr. Suess to my baby daughter and really enjoying his messages, so I wanted to share it with all of you on this Winter Friday. #FeelGoodFriday #BeYourself #SelfCare... #TherapistInNiagara See more

Today is #ToqueTuesday and, even though we can’t get together for the traditional breakfast at Market Square, now more than ever we need to support preventative solutions to homelessness. Purchase your toque (or mask) from RaisingTheRoof.org. They are great for hiding your COVID hair and the fact that you haven’t had a haircut in 2 months #RTRToque2021

If you are experiencing mental health concerns, please know that you are not alone. It’s OK to not be OK. If you had a broken arm, would you feel ashamed to share that with your colleagues? If you had skin cancer, would you hide that from your loved ones? Let’s work towards a place where we can talk about our mental illnesses in the same breath as our physical ailments. One in five Canadians will experience a mental health concern or struggle with addiction this year. #Be...llLetsTalk Day offers a great opportunity to normalize conversations about addiction and mental health struggles, but it is not enough to just make a post or talk about it once a year. Let’s talk about mental health and addiction year-round and offer supports and understanding to those who suffer these illnesses every day, not just once a year. If you or someone you know are in a crisis situation, The Distress Centre Niagara has 24/7phone support available at 905-688-3711. Each year, 6.7M Canadians suffer from mental health concerns. Many of these Canadians suffer in silence due to persistent stigma. Stigma we as Canadians need to work together to dissolve. Let’s create a "new normal" where talking about our mental health concerns is as acceptable as talking about our physical health concerns. It is OK to not be OK. ... During the incredible challenges and restrictions of the past year with COVID, many Canadians may be experiencing heightened depression, anxiety, and stress. Working from home while homeschooling and being unable to access family and friends is exacerbating all of these issues. Reaching out to family and friends virtually, or for a distanced outdoor visit or walk, can help alleviate the feelings of isolation and COVID fatigue. #BellLetsTalk #TherapistInNiagara #MentalHealth

Be kind. Be nice. Be thoughtful. Be compassionate. These are all things that we try to be and qualities we try to embody when we interact with others. Why, then, is it so hard for us to be kind, nice, thoughtful, and compassionate to ourselves? During this unprecedented (at least in our lifetime) global pandemic, it is OK to not be OK. It is OK to be kind to yourself, to realize that you may not achieve everything you hoped to accomplish. It is OK to be nice to yourself, to accept that you may have let your New Year’s resolutions pass (and its only the 19th of January). Sometimes, all we can do is get through the day and that, too, is OK. Week 5 of sharing a quote for cynics from my coffee table book. If you know me, you know that I truly enjoy dry/dark British-style jokes and comedy. Approaching life with humour and humility is a big part of my personality and that also carries over into my practice here at Cameron Counselling. #SelfCareCanBeFunny #SarcasticLifeAdvice #CounsellingwithHumour #TherapistInNiagara

This #GivingTuesday I made a donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada in honour of my Big Brother Andre, who made a tremendous difference in my childhood and who is still a big part of my life to this day. I was lucky to be a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and fortunate to be able to give back this year. You can donate to them at: https://bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/donate-online/ or to a charity of your choice!

Today is #ProjectPlaid Day in memory of Amelia Durocher, started by her mother Shanta & family. Amelia was lost to suicide at age 18 in February 2019. In her memory & to raise awareness about mental health; our community is encouraged to wear plaid on November 27 and start a conversation with friends, family, & co-workers about mental health. If you are able to, you can also donate to Pathstone Mental Health Foundation which provides critical mental health services for youth. To make a donation, visit: www.pathstonefoundation.ca/donate/ and designate funds to #projectplaid
