Operation Alert Bay Sept 14th, 3 males and 2 Females returned to caretakers and 8 more cats trapped to be spayed and neutered. I am afraid one will not be returning, this is a humanitarian visit to the vet so that this poor boy will no longer be suffering

As in life with rescue there is the heart warming moments and the heart breaking ones. Kyra is a feral cat that came to us from Alert Bay in the later stages of pregnancy, our team and in particular the foster Tammy waited in excitement for the moment she would bring life into this world, Sept 9th the day arrived and the excitement began until the first little one was born and it was deceased, then 3 more healthy kittens arrived then the 5th smaller than the others but alive... arrived. Yesterday was a busy day trying all we could to help our little 5th born Star. The write up below is from our foster Shannon The other side of rescue. Yesterday afternoon I received a message from Karen about a teeny tiny kitten that might need a foster home. Mama kitty Kyra had a lot going on, having already lost one of her kittens at birth. The tiniest of the litter, Star, was almost half the size of her siblings, and was having no luck latching on for meal. Karen took little Star to Oreo, another foster cat mama who was nursing two week old kittens to see if shed eat. No luck. Oreo welcomed Star with open paws, but it just wasnt a fit, literally. By dinner time I preparing supplies. By dusk I was en route to CR from Comox to meet the tiniest little kitten Ive ever seen. Her head was the size of a walnut! Karen gave Star a feeding when I arrived, and then we headed out. Star was all cozied up on her warm buddy bear in my smallest carrier, and she made the cutest squeaky noises on the way home. I fed her at two hour intervals. I was cheering her on each time, amazed and impressed at how hard she was trying. When I woke at 5am for the pre-dawn feeding, I was shocked and saddened to discover Star had passed away. I had fed her at 3am and she gave no obvious signs of distress. When I realized she wasnt moving, I did what anyone would have: I rubbed her vigorously and tried to listen for breathing and heart sounds. Nothing. So, as the sky lightened outside, she joined her celestial namesakes and was gone.

We currently have 26 cats in our care and 15 of those are kittens. Kittens EAT a LOT! Those of you who have fur babies in your home know that it can be costly feeding them. Multiply that x 26 hungry tummies every day and then add to that the food costs for our feral colonies that we feed and water every single day. Our kitten food cupboard is pretty busy and it empties fast. Recently we put out a plea for help in replenishing our kitten food supply and as usual, so man...y of you responded. People went shopping for the kitties to help keep those little critters happy and healthy. THANK YOU!!! All donations large and small truly are gratefully received. We dont know who most of you are - we just know that you respond all year and help us feed the cats. In this recent food drive, generous people in the community dropped off food, sent money and visited the local pet stores to donate. Many, while shopping for their own fur babies, purchased and donated extra food for the CR PAWS kitties as a gift from their own kitties at home. Woofys, Bosleys by Pet Valu and Dogwood PetMart all gathered donations for us and as well, they all contributed to the food drive from their businesses. Some supporters like Bev Van Merlo contacted Sue Ho , owner at Dogwood Pet Mart and transferred $150.00 to the CR PAWS account to buy food for the kittens Sue added even more to that. She often does this. Long time supporter Penny Gilman donated her gift certificates and more! Another long time supporter who always wishes to remain anonymous, sent a donation of $500.00 specifically for the purchase of kitten food. These are just some of the examples of help and we apologize that we arent able to acknowledge every single one of you who have helped. We just want you to know that your donations are eagerly consumed by our kittens in care. The volunteers at CR PAWS are driven by two things - their love for helpless creatures and their desire to help them to a better life is one motivator. The other emotion that drives us is the support from our North Island Community individuals and business. We constantly say that we couldnt do it without all of you and we mean that every single day. Thank you all!

Were ADOPTED! As mentioned in our earlier Adoption post, the CR PAWS Adoption Coordinator, Bonnie Kennedy spent her Labour Day long weekend carrying out all of the many tasks related to adoptions of CR PAWS cats and kittens. Bonnie is completely dedicated to ensuring that her charges land safely on all four paws so that they will have a great rest of their life. Here is what Bonnie had to tell us about ADDIE and FRANKLIN (formely known as Pixie and Bruno) The photos ...shown here were all taken by their new family. This bundle of sweetness overload found their way into the hearts of their new family this weekend. Sheri and her daughters welcomed the brother and sister kitties into their home. - one for each of the girls! Sheri had come to the realization that everyone in the family should have a pet in their life so she went looking and found these two lucky little cuties to add to their family. In no time, these two were playing and being their silly kitten selves and lots of giggles and laughter were filling the home. Thank you to Sheri and girls for opening your heart and home to these two furballs of cuteness. Your lives will be so enriched having their love and sharing yours. Big Hug and Thank you to two of our amazing Foster team members. started them off in care when they were just a few weeks old. took them in just a couple short weeks ago when we needed Shannons foster skills again. We werent sure we were going to get them from Evelyn as everyday she fell more and more in love. I mean who wouldnt? You two ladies made an amazing team getting these two ready for their furever family. Thank you so much to the both of you

While many of us were enjoying a long weekend of beautiful weather and relaxation, our dedicated Adoption Coordinator, Bonnie Kennedy spent her weekend planning, communicating, arranging times, picking up and delivering 4 kittens who had their adoptions finalized. Thank you from all of us Bonnie! Youre an amazing woman. Here is the story of Lola and Petunia as told by Bonnie. This weekend these two little sister cuties, Petunia and Lola, the last 2 kittens from the Loo...ney Tunes litter, were adopted. I took them for a little drive to their furever home, a nice small town on the North Island where they will begin their new life with a very nice lady named Kim. Kim thought these two sweeties were the purrfect candidates to share her love and home. No question that they will be spoiled and very loved once they have settled into their new home. Thank you Kim for choosing these two to receive your love. There is a wonderful life in store for you now that youre all together. Again a Big Hug and Thank you to foster Linda Chartrand Nobis and her family. Her oldest daughter will have her bedroom back now that these two have made their way home but dont get too comfortable because I am sure you will soon have more cuteness to share your room with. . Thank you to the whole Foster family for sharing your love and guidance with Lola and Petunia and the rest of the Looney Tunes Gang. They have a great start thanks to all of you. See more

Recently Karen Ingle , Volunteer and one of the founders of CR PAWS, was driving along Petersen Road when she and the person in a car in front of her both saw a tiny kitten struggling in a field all on its own. In an effort to inform people about alternatives to dumping animals, Karen posted to the Rant and Rave Facebook page pleading for people to help spread the word that there is a humane alternative to dumping cats and kittens. The post caught the eye of a CTV new reporter who invited Karen to speak about this issue on TV. Watch what Karen had to say on behalf of all cats and kittens. Thank you Karen!

If anyone is able to drop off any recycling donations we will be very appreciative. We can PM you an address for drop off. Thank you again!

Frankie and Iris have been ADOPTED! The first two kittens of the Boundary Gang litter made their way into their furever home yesterday. Were so happy for Iris and Frankie to start the rest of their lives with the Mackenzie family. Nicki MacKenzie and her son Michael MacKenzie have been watching our page, waiting for the right pair of babies to come available and Frankie and Iris were those babies. Turns out that the Mackenzies are an animal loving family who are friend...s of other animal loving families known to CR PAWS. It is always comforting knowing that our babies go into homes where people understand rescue animals and know how to give them time to adjust. Michael said to me yesterday " its all in their time" and that is a true statement when it comes to cats. It is their time and they will do what they feel comfortable doing when their time is right. Thank you so much to Michael and Nicki Mackenzie for opening your hearts and home to these two beautiful babies. They are going to live the best life they were meant to live with all your love and kindness. Big thank you to foster mom Brenda Tasche Piec for getting Iris and Frankie ready for their furever home. Such a handful with multiple kittens but its so worth it when they move on to their new family. Two more of the Boundary Gang Litter to finish getting ready for their adopters then Brendas house will be quiet again..... for a short time anyways. . Our Foster families are an invaluable component of the CR PAWS team. Were 100% volunteer based and volunteers put in hundreds of hours and its worth every hour when these beautiful adoption moments happen. We wish the Mackenzies many hours of fun and enjoyment with their new family. See more

We are overloaded with Foster Kittens in care and as tiny as they are, they are EATING MACHINES! Our Feeding Coordinator who ensures that all of the Foster Homes are stocked with food and litter sent a photo this morning of bare cupboards in the kitten section of the feed shed. If you can possibly help at all, we would be VERY grateful for any donations of Royal Canin dry or wet canned Kitten food. Any donations that you can spare can take place through our Pet store frie...nds here in Campbell River. Wonderful Adoption news!!! Little ASH from the Boundary litter has been adopted. He is now happy and content in his new home with new furbuddies, Cedar and Atty and their loving human Janny. As our Adoption Coordinator Bonnie says; a picture is worth 1000 words and these family photos of the three happy residents clearly show that Ash has settled in quickly and quite nicely with both of his new fur siblings. Look at all that furry cuteness!! Such a happy ending and a... fabulous beginning for our little rescued Ash. Thank you Janny for being that awesome animal person we love and for giving Ash his best life with your family. All the best in the future See more

Andrew has been Adopted. This successful adoption is a result of our social media presence and the exposure that friends, family and strangers get from the CR PAWS volunteers and supporters who watch and share our posts. A potential adopter who had been looking for a kitten but was not really familiar with CR PAWS had posted on her personal page that she wanted to adopt a kitten. Her sister, a friend of our Adoption Coordinator Bonnie, and a follower of our page (who liv...es in California by the way) suggested that she should contact CR PAWS as she had seen our adoption posts. Bonnie also saw that another friend and previous adoption family of CR PAWS cats, also directed her to the Facebook page. It didnt take Tiffany long to spot sweet Andrew. It took her even less time to get the adoption application in to us. Tiffany meant business... lol. By 3 pm yesterday afternoon this fine young boy kitten had found his furever home with Tiffany and Roy. It was a purrfect first meeting as well. Andrew was calm while investigating his new bedroom and then while Tiffany pet him he laid down beside her and began to purr. That right there is heart melting stuff. They were made to be a match! Thank you to Tiffany and Roy for adding Andrew to your family and new home. He will have a fabulous future growing with love and attention. The foster family who nurtured Andrew has been very busy this year and we send a huge thank you and big hug to Katie Zylstra for preparing Andrew for a life in a furever home. All the love and compassion she puts into these babies is so important toward earning their trust in humans. It can also be the reason its so hard to let them move on to their furever homes. You are a special lady Katie. Please dont ever stop helping CR PAWS and their rescued cats and kittens from starting their best life journey possible. Much love and admiration to you All the best to Tiffany Sharkie Roy and their new fur baby Andrew. See more

Can you help in the creation of a new dream life for an abandoned or feral cat or kitten? These little guys wont have a chance in the wild without help from all of us. FOSTER HOMES are NEEDED! CR PAWS is now in need of additional Foster Families. If you can help, please send a message to our Foster Coordinator through this page. If you are unsure of what is involved we are here to answer your questions. Please do consider this. Our rescues need temporary placement in ...warm, safe and caring homes until they are ready for adoption. What does fostering a cat involve? When you foster, you agree to take a homeless cat into your home and give them love, care, attention and the time needed until the cat is socialized and ready to be adopted. Socializing the cat to a home living environment gets them used to being around different types of people and possibly other pets in the home. Some of the cats who require fostering might be: - A cat who has not lived in a home before or has not had much contact with people and needs to be introduced to humans until adopted; - A cat who is socially ready to be adopted but needs attention and training and a safe place to stay until they are old enough to go to a forever home. Any questions that you may have can be discussed fully with our Foster Coordinator. Thank you for considering joining the CR PAWS team. We need YOU. You can make a real difference in a little creatures life.

****Update. Were ADOPTED!**** WERE READY to be ADOPTED! These two sweet sisters LOLA and PETUNIA are the last two kittens ready to be adopted from the darling Looney Tunes Gang. We would prefer that these two are adopted by the same family so that they will always have lifelong company with one another. ... The whole Looney Tunes gang have been fostered together by our wonderful Nobis Foster Family. Each time this family fosters, (and they always seem to take more on) , they do a wonderful job of socializing the cats and kittens. These little beauties are no exception. Heres how Foster Mom Linda Chartrand Nobis , describes these little girls: LOLA Lola has gorgeously unique patterning in her colouring. Shes an eye catcher for sure. She is the biggest kitten of the litter. She is a laid back and very sweet girl who doesnt startle too easily. She enjoys laying beside you and purring up a storm; sometimes when you pet her, she likes to play with your fingers very gently. Her hobbies are playing with her siblings, sleeping and being the 1st to the food bowl and the last to leave the food bowl. Lola can be very talkative when you speak to her and she lets you know when she wants more petting. Lola isnt fond of being picked up and would much rather lay beside you and receive your adoration. PETUNIA This pure black beauty is the smallest of the litter and immediately works her way into your heart. Petunia is rather shy and takes a bit to warm up to humans and seeks comfort in her siblings but she is getting so much braver each day. Once youve earned Petunias trust she will allow you to pet her and will sometimes come for petting and to stand in your lap but dont pick her up; this usually results in her complaining. Petunia startles easily still and will often hide from you until shes sure it is safe to come out. Petunia enjoys to play fast and furiously and can be quite comical in her eagerness and excitement to catch her "prey". Recently Linda tells us that Petunia has become fascinated with watching her Foster Familys eyes. She will sit right close to my face when Im laying down and with her head tilted watch my eyes. She will then sniff at my eyes.. its so adorable If you are interested in adopting Lola and Petunia, please go to the NOTES section of the page and find and complete the Adoption application. You can then email it to: [email protected]

Car is loaded to release last weeks spays and neuters and ready to reload todays. I, Karen am flying solo today. It is a long day getting up at 0500 and back home usually at 8-9pm but so worth the time knowing thousands of kittens will not be born and neutering will help the cats stay healthy. I can not thank you all for your financial and moral support through this very important initiative of supporting our remote communities on the North Island. The people of Alert Bay are very kind and thankful for everyone support for their community cats. Wish me luck today. I am looking for feral kittens and hoping to bring back 8 adults to be fixed. I will keep you updated with photos.

Happy news from our Adoption Coordinator, Bonnie Kennedy. One great journey has to end for another to begin. Today was that kind of day for Tweety and Sylvester. Off they went to start their next journey with their furever family. Actually, they are going back to where they started as the wonderful family that adopted them is the same family that helped rescue them. Today the dad of the family said it was interesting how things work out. They had just been talking about ...getting 2 sibling kittens once their home renovations were complete. Next thing they knew, CR PAWS was knocking at their door as they had a report of kittens in his shed. Fast forward 6 weeks later, renos are pretty much complete and the kittens are ready too. Yes the Universe works in mysterious ways sometimes. Thank you to this fabulous family for opening their hearts and home to these little ones after helping us rescue them. Big thank you and hugs to Linda Chartrand Nobis and her awesome foster family for taking the kittens into foster and getting them ready for their furever home. Its always bittersweet when this day comes however, as a foster, we know its more important for these rescue kitties to get a second chance at the best life they deserve. Foster homes are priceless and we couldnt do it without them Happy days to Sylvester and Tweety in their new home. See more

Sweet little SUNSHINE is ready for Adoption Note : There is also a short video of sweet Sunshine in the COMMENTS section of this post. Please check it out after you read her write up. Thank you. Sunshine is a very sweet and affectionate girl who loves to be petted. She will come and snuggle on your lap, shes not too fond of being picked up and she has had no exposure to other cats or dogs while she has been in the care of CR PAWS. With all these things taken into... consideration, she would likely be best as the only pet in your home. Also Sunshine has not been exposed to children. We believe Sunshine is a young cat and has been surviving on her own for a long time. She needs to continue learning to live in a home again. Because she had learned to be watchful and cautious while surviving outdoors, Sunshine startles easily. When we were alerted to her whereabouts, Sunshine had 6 kittens who she was caring for. All of her kittens were trapped first and all have now been adopted. She was a superstar around those kittens and she evaded capture herself for several days after the last kitten was trapped. When we finally trapped Sunshine, we saw that she had a serious injury at the base of her tail and upon examination by the Vet, it was decided that the only safe and humane course of action was to amputate her tail. In cats there are many nerve endings at the base of their tail and this must have been very painful for this little girl and if left in the wild she probably would have not survived much longer. However as soon as her tail surgery and spaying was complete, she bounced right back and is very healthy and content with her foster family, Chris and Roger. She is now ready to move on to her new family. Sunshine is very unique without her tail and she doesnt seem to miss it at all. If you are interested in adopting Sunshine, please go to our NOTES section on this page and complete the adoption application and email it to [email protected]. See more

Hi there! Bonnie the adoption coordinator here. As you have seen we have a lot of kittens coming in which will be available for adoption once they have had all vet procedures done and our fosters feel they are ready for their furever family. They will be posted as they come available and at that time we will be accepting adoption applications. We usually get multiple applications so unfortunately there are no guarantees as we cant do a first come first service type of thing. Our main concern for these babies as with any of our rescue kitties, is for them to be placed in the best possible home. So I ask for your patience with this process. As with any rescue its about the animal, not the human. Thank you so much for your support and kindness.

Project Alert Bay was a busy and productive day on Wed. 4 females will no longer have kittens outside, 4 males will hopefully not spray, fight and will not make babies, 1 female will deliver her babies in a foster home, 2 feral kittens will be socialized and adopted into a home and 1 surrendered kitten has gone to SPCA. In Total 12 cats were helped and countless kittens will not be born outside. Wed was a great day. Huge thank you to everyone who supports CR PAWS, without you we would not have great days like this.
