Loving the resting to wake up Humpbacks this season. Yesterday we found Constellation with Yogi (thank you Erin for the ID's!!) in Baker Pass slowly travelling side by side. Stellar Hey scroll through the pics!! The last couple of days through the Discovery Islands has been amazing. Dolphins foraging in the Dent Rapids and up close and personal with the Sea Lions of Innes Pass yesterday. And the T010s meeting Mathematician the Humpback today! We don't think he likes #biggskillerwhales as he was the most active I have seen anyone this season with full breaches, tail lobs, Pec slaps and the works for an hour!! It has been an amazing return of the #biggs as the last two days have brought the T002Cs T037s T034s T101s T102 and the T090s back through our viewing areas. August 30th 2020 Northern Resident Orca from the C1 Pod and D1 Pod visited Seymour Narrows and Discovery Passage. The Flood current was alive with blows as members of the C6 C10 (not all) D9 D12 D11 (unsure on D13) Matrilines shuffled around waiting for the 12 knot flood to subside enough to head back west. I think it was 2006 when we had some of this matriline and upwards of 100 Orcas come down into Nodales Channel. It might even be that long since I have seen these guys do...wn this way. Today was an interesting one.....2 separate Orca reports that didn't pan out for us to start and running 80 miles to get around and back to these guys who passed #campbellriver northbound! Then 7 miles back to home lol.....but we had a nice big #grizzlybear in the middle, numerous #humpbacks and a great scenic trip! And hey 80 miles for Orca.....thats what I do!! T060D and T060E on their own I think is a first for me to see so far apart from the others. See this a lot this year with the 101s and 102 and also hearing I think the 137s splitting up now a bit to. Epic encounter with the T090s T101s T102 this morning near Cortez Bay. These guys went from seal hunt to seal hunt along the south side of Cortez with numerous kills. T090B and T101A were together for a lot of it, sharing prey during this part of the encounter. Went on a whim today, found these guys for the fleet plus then found the T018 T019s hiding in behind Marina Island in the afternoon!! Northern Resident Orcas A23s A25s A30s I15s July 31st 2020 near Eve River, Johnston Strait. Went for an Old School #campbellriver Whale run and we were not disappointed! A 115mile round trip did not deter us from heading up the Strait on Friday in an attempt to find NR's reported easting. After 2.5 hrs of running I was beginning to wonder but just then a small group of Whitesides appeared on the horizon. This little pod took us across the strait and directly for the Orcas not soon after! So the #chiefwhalespotter and I went for a Staff run on Sunday and had a pretty magical day. He found us the #dolphins hiding along the shoreline resting and after a few minutes the ocean erupted in jumps and action! These are just a few of the flower jumps from that day On the way home we found #humpbackwhales Slits and Lucky (two of my favourites) Bubblenet lunging and bubblenet Trap Feeding for smaller bait fish on the surface close to the islands. This behaviour is sti...ll relatively new for us here and I’m quite captivated by it. So after a slight hiatus with no cell phone (I gave it to the Humpbacks on Friday) let me present to you our epic wake up breaches from Sunday’s your with @raintreevetbc and staff!! In one word describe today's Humpback encounter....... EPIC ... Raza and friend (id's to follow) were having a nice afternoon snooze when they all of a sudden decided to wake up! A flurry of a huge surface kick then down for 10 seconds and BOOM BOOM two magical double rotating breaches that blew our minds! After some light mugging the two moved off for some more frolicking about. Yesterday again was all about the little things and they did not disappoint :) Eagle Heaven was amazing on the last of a smaller flood current we had numerous hake surfacing for the birds. It's a spectacular scene with eagles lining the trees not unlike decorations on your christmas tree :) And this large male stellar was quite curious and swam right under the boat twice as we sat in a small bay watching the eagles.
