Camp FFIT 22.11.2020

Ingrid Krausbar joined us at Camp FFIT in 2013 and it was clear that her calm presence and great strength would bode well for her future plans to become a firefighter. In the meantime, Ingrid played rugby, starting in high school and later with Team Ontario where they won U18 Nationals. She also played for Carleton University until she recognized her strength and passion for rowing. She rowed for Carleton and was scouted by the Canadian National team while at the RBC Training... Ground Combine and rowed with the National Development Team. She went on to compete in Collegiate Nationals as well as Canadian Nationals. Ingrid also played competitive AA hockey with the Perth Predators, as well as with her unit in the Canadian Military. In 2018, Ingrid join the 30th Field Royal Canadian Artillery and was deployed to Yellowknife and Norway. In 2020, she began her career with Ottawa Fire Services as a fulltime firefighter, completing Recruit School in July! Ingrid has known about firefighting her entire life. She is the fourth member of her immediate family to become a firefighter with OFS. Her father, Gunther Krausbar became a firefighter in 1997, her mother Ellen Pazdzior in 1999, her brother Nik in 2018, and now Ingrid in 2020! The entire family of four are all currently working for OFS! That’s a first for our department! Congratulations, Ingrid! Wishing you all the best for a long and healthy career!

Camp FFIT 27.10.2020

Today, Camp Alum, Marisa Tremblay is working her 1st shift as an Ottawa firefighter! She has stayed focused and dedicated to her goal for 9 years since attending Camp FFIT in 2010! Marisa joined us at Camp FFIT in 2010, our inaugural camp, at the age of 16. She has been working hard towards her goal ever since. In June of 2012 she graduated from the Pre-Service Fire fighter program at La Cité Collégiale, and from the Fire Sciences and Public Safety program at Lambton College... in December of 2013. During her time at Lambton she competed in the Firefit Combat Challenge, finishing 1st in Canada with her women’s relay team and 7th over all in the individual category. Marisa still holds the world record for her age category (21 at the time). She then went on to work for the Ministry of Natural Resources in 2014 and for three more seasons after, in both Fort Francis and North Bay, receiving her Crew Boss certification in 2016. Marisa came back to volunteer at Camp FFIT four years, twice as a student volunteer and twice after becoming a firefighter with MNR. Always offering great support to the participants and the instructors. Today, Marisa is working her first shift as a full time Ottawa Firefighter! She completed drill school last week with 19 other firefighters who all begin work this week. She is the first camp participant to be hired full time with Ottawa Fire Services! Marisa will also work as a coordinator at Camp FFIT this summer, not only working with the participants, but also sharing her journey to becoming a firefighter! Marisa is the epitome of hard work and dedication to her goals. We couldn’t be prouder of her and her accomplishments and we’re looking forward to seeing what is in store for her next! Congratulations, Marisa!!! See more
