Hello all! Looking for people who remember when Pops Poproski led us leaders in designing the game Pirates during Junior A... (I think?) Or for anyone Camper/Le...ader alike who has played it in subsequent years... I have a Homeschool pod of Gr 5-8 students who want to plan this Wide Game for other homeschooled kids this June, to be played with actual canoes around Hunter's Bay here in Huntsville. (I know it morphed to be played on actual lakes at camps like Pioneer and Iona in Muskoka too... ) We plan to send out "aged" paper character role instructions (like dinner party mystery games) to registered families in messages in bottles. Part of the fun all the Homeschoolers preparing their own costumes and props amd characters etc. Looking for every detail people can recall/imagine about the different nations - what products did they sell, how did banking work with multipliers on goods carted to the furthest ports for higher selling value, how was the game initially leveled (similar to Survival) as Pirates, Merchant Marine and Navy begin the game with different resources and rules of who can take what from other players, what were the ratios of Pirate : Navy : Merchants Battles, if I recall correctly, were done with rock-paper-scissors. In our canoe scenario, attacking teams will need to be close enough to splash another team, then canoes will pull up closer together and 1 delegate from each boat will rock/paper/scissors to determine if goods or money change hands. Brainstorming on this is welcome! Looking also for clarity on how to physically balance the canoe paddler's size and strength and boat speed if we'll be aiming to remain in school pod cohorts. Kids will range from Junior up to High Schoolers... (I'm hoping older ones will embrace the roles of Harbourmasters and prepare with accents and costumes for each of the ports.) What physical items should we use as goods and coin? Ziploc bag wallets? Laminated pictures for goods? Breadtags for coin? Dollartree plastic golden coins? *Durable in water and environmentally friendly if dropped in the Bay / floatable for easy retrieving. Hmm... maybe 1 piece of air pocket packaging from Amazon could be tethered to each wallet as an emergency float... Please hit me with ALL your ideas! Safety concerns? Strategies? Details? Reworks of the game? There's not a year that goes by that I don't thank the Lord for Camp Hermosa, and all that He has done there. Thanks, everyone!

Friends, we are at 2/3 of our goal! There's still time to give before 2020 is over. What better way to wave goodbye to an unprecedented year than with unprecedented generosity? https://www.canadahelps.org//camp-herm/campaign/red-green/

Though this Christmas Eve may feel different from Christmas Eves past, the Good News of Jesus Christ hasn't changed! We hope you'll find peace and comfort in this rendition of "O Come, All Ye Faithful", from Junior High program directors Deanne and Zach. Merry Christmas!

Hermosians, I am so excited to share that we are more than halfway to our goal! You've gotten us there, through giving (on Canada Helps and by sending a cheque or EMT to our treasurer) and sharing our posts to your networks on social media. We're so grateful for your support, but we can't stop yet! Will you give some green before December 31 so we don't end up in the red? https://www.canadahelps.org//camp-herm/campaign/red-green/

Camp Hermosa 06.11.2020

Thanks to the generosity of the Camp Hermosa community, we've hit the $8,000 mark in our Red & Green fundraising campaign! Thank you to everyone who has given thus far. If you haven't donated yet, we'd be immensely grateful for your support. We're still in jeopardy of ending the year $10,000 in the red - and so, we're asking for your "green" to ensure that Camp Hermosa can begin 2021 in a more financially stable position. If you aren't able to provide financial support, would you consider sharing our campaign page with friends and family? https://www.canadahelps.org//camp-herm/campaign/red-green/
